I remember when my dad bought his first CD player in the mid-80s, he told me that he thought the music he grew up with (Beatles, Stones, etc.) would never be released on CD. That's why he kept his old turntable and record collection around. Of course, as we all know now, it was rereleased digitally, so he re-bought all his old albums on CD.

Consequently, when I first started getting seriously into music, he had no more use for his old vinyl LPs, so he gave them to me. And I subsequently bought this turntable to play them on. The sound is decent (though not quite up to the standards of my previous record player), and I haven't had one record chewed through yet. The player is very simple to operate -- no set up, just plug and play. Some say it looks cheap, but I like its nostalgic look and feel. Some say it plays at a slightly different speed than it should, but this is barely (if at all) noticeable to me. So I think the bottom line is, I love this player.

This is my second Crosley turntable. My first was five years old when it wore out. I haven't had this current one for very long, but if my first experience is any indicator, I expect this one to last as well. With a collection of over 200 LPs and 70+ 45s, it is important to me to find a good, long-lasting turntable to enjoy my vinyl. I think this player serves its purpose as being a reliable and dependable way to relive the good old days. I will always trust the Crosley name with my memories.

I got this record player for my boyfriend's birthday present. he loved it so much and it's a great product, especially for the price. it can fit any size record and it has built in speakers that have very nice sound quality. it has to plug in, so it's not completely portable, but the suitcase design made moving it to college with him a lot easier. anyone who wants a nice, easy to use record player should buy this one!

actually much nicer than i expected after reading the negative reviews....plays at correct speed.....doesn't "eat" records. sound could be a little better, but for the price adequate. cabinet sturdy.

this turntable is a joke. i am not being over critical, and this is obvious since i have never had a turntable. i got this item expecting an AWESOME record playing experience. what i got was a mess. the speakers on this thing blew out within my first record, and started rattling like CRAZY! (you might be thinking: well obviously you just had the volume way to high!!) but i was listening to the table at half volume (honest!!). ALSO my first record got gouged to death by the needle. it has no weight control, so it just went right ahead and killed Jethro Tull's aqualung! (i literally watched shaves of my record peal off.) i opened the turntable up to see what was wrong (it was way to easy to do!) and i found the thing was constructed of [...] of hot glue, plastic, and wood (no joke...They used hot glue!!!) the speakers are NOT full range, and you will not "enjoy" LPs in your garage OR ANYWHERE!..i am sorry to be so vicious, but don't take the risk of buying this player........ON THE BRIGHT SIDE ...well....it played my records i suppose...but it sounded awful.

I read some rather unimpressive reviews before deciding to purchase the Crosley CR49 Traveler Turntable. The negative reviews appeared to be coming from folks who seemed to have unrealistic expectiations for such a small unit like the CR49 and in such a low price range. Considering the price ($79.99)I am totaly happy with the overall sound and workmanship. This is not for people looking for great sound....in fact it sounds very much like the old record player I had up in my bedroom back in the mid 60's.....but that in it self is part of the charm of this unit for me. I play old 45's on this player and that's about it, so if your looking for a little trip back in time this unit fits the bill.
