| I don't know that this is the greatest album unless you're a fan of the song "Tom's Diner," but since that's who I figure it's geared toward, it's definitely worth having. You'll find just about everything you want here--and it will leave you wanting more! The album contains both the acapella as well as the DNA versions of "Tom's Diner" and a host of great remakes and parodies. Two of my favorites are "Tom's ?" by Bingo Hand Job (a hilarious acapella parody) and "Jeannie's Diner" by Marilyn E Whitelaw & Mark Davis (a parody based on *I Dream of Jeannie* that was also used on a Nick at Night advertisement for the show). For those who are more serious-minded, there's a Gulf War satire by Beth Watson and a social commentary by Nikki D. There are a couple of cool versions in foreign languages, a reggae version by Michigan & Smiley, a rather silly rap version by After One, and a version with some really cool instrumentals (albeit rather lacking vocals) by n.d.a. Project. I'm not crazy about all the songs on the album (the After One rap version, in particular), but there's enough on here to keep me interested and laughing for a while. If you love "Tom's Diner," though--it's a must have. |
