I am a Metallica fan and was first curious of this kind of tribute. I have other tribute albums from different artists. There are a few good ones and a couple of misses for me on this cd but it's good enough for me to still listen & enjoy it.
But if you are too wary, try to find it at used cd stores so you won't feel so bad if you end up not liking it.

when i was about 10 i heard that metallica were cool, so i went and bought this album, thinking it was metallica originals. i loved it. i later heard some real metallica and was somewhat dissapointed. i have also since heard many other tracks from the artists featured on this album. i prefer this cover album to original metallica, and i prefer this cover album to anything else the artists featured have done (except perhaps razed in black). unfortunately, i have not found anything quite as dark yet good as this.

I love metallica and industrial, this thing is just pure evil, is the worst tribute ever.

I am a HUGE industrial fan and an above average Metallica fan. I was really expecting to find a great album that mixed Metallica's awesome lyrics with some very cool modern industrial. Instead you get an album that that doesn't cross the industrial line at all. Techno at best and that isn't even with all the songs. Some are funk... others are just rock. Listening to both 1 and 2 only made me want to return the CD's and put in some older metallica. Steer clear!!! 0 stars if allowed.

5 Star Rating  "Excellent industrial, NOT metal tribute album"2005-11-12

This is an industrial tribute to Metallica, so many Metallica fans out there will probably not like it at all. Be prepared for big beats, samples, and gritty lyrics. Most of the songs stay at least somewhat true to the originals, but it can sometimes be difficult to make out what song they are covering.

As a fan of both Metallica and industrial music I heartily recommend this album. Fans of industrial who aren't into Metallica will also take a liking to it, but Metallica fans who are not fans of industrial should steer clear.

3 Star Rating  "Overall good album"2003-02-11

This is good overall but with only a few standout songs. In my opinion, the last song "Battery" is the best of all, but is closer to rave then industrial. On the downside, there seems to be a few too many songs that are simply the originals with a new backbeat and more distortion. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys Metallica, or is a fan of industrial music.

This album.... I bought it expecting to find Metallica songs, but instead I hear funky... that some no-name bands wrote. These songs are mere imitations, and bad ones at that, of the great legend Metallica. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this album. You'll save yourself a lot of money.

Hellsau's Master of Puppets, Razed in Black's Damage Inc, and Spew's For Whom the Bells Toll covers lead the pack for me, followed closely by the two Nothing Else Matters covers by The Element and Apotygma Berzerk and Whiplash by Abaddon of Venom.

Unfortunately the rest of the album trails off into so-so listenable mediocrity.

Still, the good songs are really good and the not-so-good songs are still pretty decent on average. Its definitely not a skip-every-other-track album, and better than either of the sequel 'Blackest' tribute albums. Its great background music, and none of the tracks distinguish themselves by the expedient of being jarringly awful.

I would recommend it more to Metallica fans that consider Metallica to be on the heavy end of thier listening spectrum as opposed to Metallica fans like myself who consider most Metallica to be relatively easy listening. ;) I would recommend it much less so to Industrial fans as several of the covers are pretty apish of the original rather than serving as true Industrial versions.

I really really like this. Tres cool. To disagree with the other fans of the album, I'd have to say the best track is a tie between the two Razed in Black covers (yeah, I'm a die-hard RiB fan, but songs like this are the reason), with Thing That Should Not Be probably edging out the lead. They all just sound awesome. I hate the original version of Wherever I May Roam, but I think it actually sounds fairly good on here. The Die Krupps cover also sounds pretty decent, and I must admit that For Whom the Bell Tolls does please my senses a fair amount. All in all, worth the cash, and give it a chance. And a quick note to all those who loathed this: if you want your Metallica to sound just like the original, why are you buying cover albums anyway?

Please do not buy any of the tributes to Metallica. They are all the most blasphemous sorry excuses for Metallica covers. Hardly any of them remotely sound like the originals. If you want to listen to Metallica music, then buy only Metallica music written and performed by Metallica themselves.
