"Best No Doubt Album" | 2007-07-15 |

I don't have all No Doubt albums yet, but so far, this is my favorite. It has everything that was good about No Doubt: ska, reggae, punk, funk, and pop. Sure, I don't hate No Doubt's new stuff, but it doesn't really hold a candle to this. I can't believe this only sold a few thousand copies upon its release. I don't get it. It was better than most other albums out that year. I also can't believe the amount of people that don't like this album. It may be the recording quality or whatever, but I still don't get why people don't like it. It's at least a little bit better than most that came next, in my opinion. Anyways, there's the end of my rant. My favorite song is probably Ache. |

"No Doubt's whimsical, Third Wave Ska debut" | 2007-05-19 |

Wow! This is one of No Doubt's greatest albums. Who knew? I grew up on Tragic Kingdom and The Beacon Street Collection back in the mid 90s, but I wasn't familiar with their self-titled debut until years later. I love all of their albums, from this first one all the way down through Rock Steady. But that's just because I have fairly broad musical taste. It ain't for everybody. The advice I would give to anyone thinking of buying this CD is to not expect it to be like No Doubt's later work. It's an almost completely different sound. You have to approach this record with the understanding that it's mostly lighthearted, upbeat, jazzy, and occasionally goofy Ska music with 80s New Wave undertones. It's not as "cool" as their other albums but it's very energetic and fun. So be prepared to hear the band's immense talent applied to a different musical style than you may be accustomed to hearing from them; and enjoy. I hope this helps some prospective buyers.

"Great debut album, excellent music" | 2006-06-26 |

No Doubt's first self-titled album is an excellent ska album. It starts off with a really cool instrumental and has a bunch of cool songs that are fun to listen to and are totally different from anything you hear in popular music today.
A great album from a great band, a must-have for anyone who likes ska or is interested in 90s music. And even if you aren't sure, just listen to the 30 second samples and decide for yourself. |

This was No Doubt's first album and has heavy use of ska and punk elements. You may not care for this style of music, but it is certainly worth a listen. Here's a song by song:
1.BND: It's an intro. It uses the very catchy ending for Brand New Day (but without the lyrics). It does its job just fine. 10/10 2.Let's Get Back: Pretty catchy. 9/10 3.Ache: A funny song about toothaches and coding. It's ok. 8/10 4.Get On the Ball: First two or so minutes it's kinda repetitive, but then it finishes with a cool jam session. 9/10 5.Move On: One of the catchiest songs No Doubt has ever made. 10/10 6.Sad For Me: It's one of their slow songs. You might not care for it. 7/10 7.Doormat: Another great one. 9/10 8.Big City Train: This one's ok, not really special. 8/10 9.Trapped In a Box: I like this one, it's good. 8/10 10.Sometimes: Starts slow, then gets a little faster. Gwen's singing makes this one good. 8/10 11.Sinking: Really catchy, love this one. 9/10 12.A Little Something Refreshing: This song is just one of their quick jams. The lyrics are annoying for this one. 7/10 13.Paulina: How many songs does No Doubt have about masturbation? This one's good. 9/10 14.Brand New Day: One of the best songs No Doubt has ever made. Everything about this song shows what made old No Doubt great! 10/10 |

"The beginnings of Gwen Stefani's voice" | 2006-03-27 |

| Though a bit Bare Naked Ladies in humor, which I appreciate, my favorite part of this album is listening to Gwen's huge control in her voice; what was she like 19 or 20? She's a huge talent as well as her brother. Though ska driven, I find it fun and quirky, couldn't give it 5 stars though because it does take a certain taste. I found Tragic Kingdom was more structured since it was with a larger label, this is what makes bands successful, but this first album was fun. |

| This is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard (Tragic Kingdom being the best). My favourite song on it is the beautiful, medieval sounding 'Sad for Me'. I also love 'Lets Get Back' |

This album isn't as good as the rest of No Doubt's albums, but it is still awesome. No Doubt has kept a lot of the same sound from this debut CD. This one is also very ska, even more so than the others I think. All of the songs on the album are very happy and up lifting. They make you want to smile and get up and dance. That's one of the great things about No Doubt, and I'm glad they kept that very same vibe going for so many years.
If you liked this album, I recommend: Try the band Save Ferris, they sound very similar to No Doubt. |

| Is this no doubt you mighgt say the first time you hear this! If you are a new no doubt fan and you like the new stuff like rocksteady and the singles cd which is good music, you might not like this. My favorite is the singles but this is great ska music and so is the beacon street collection. At first I didnt like it but its fun to see how gwens voice changes, I love Lets get back, its the best song, trapped in a box, ache, and brand new day are also good songs. get this if you like no doubt or/and ska. Give it a chance. 5 star |

"What is this? This is not No Doubt!" | 2004-05-22 |

| I know No Doubt was a ska band before Tragic Kingdom and all, but this is way beyond ska, this is put me to sleep music. It is not the No Doubt I know and love. I love the No Doubt CDs, but this one and "Rock Steady" have to be the poorest ones. Rock Steady was alright at points but "ND" was a bad CD, not what I like. I give it 3 stars because I love No Doubt and I especially loved it when I saw them in concert during the Return of Saturn tour, they were prime then! If you want to be introduced to No Doubt in a good way, I highly recommend (the pricey but still worth it) "Boom Box" box set, it has the Singles 1992-2003 CD (which has all the good songs), a B-Sides/Rarities/Remixes CD, and 2 DVDs each containing their videos and the Live from the Tragic Kingdom concert which many of you may already own on VHS. But hey, if you're a hardcore No Doubt fan, then just buy this one, but be ready to be disappointed! |

| I love, love, love this little album! I bought it in 2002 and it was my first ND album. I love the combination of ska and '80s new wave sounds and the fun, funky keybords and horns. Gwen's voice sounds awesome, almost like Cyndi Lauper circa "She's So Unusual." "Get On the Ball," "Let's Get Back," Paulina," and "Sinking" are my favorites. Yes, the lyrics are a little on the cute side at times, like in "Ache" and "Paulina" but music doesn't have to be all angst and melancholy all the time. Ska music is fun, and all music should be fun at least sometimes. Lighten up and smile once in a while. This is my favorite ND album. I have them all, even the wretched "Rock Steady" which I plan on trading in for a Specials album whenever I get the chance. "No Doubt" is a fun, funky album that will make you smile and feel good. Eric Stefani's keyboard work and lyrics and Gwen's dreamy voice really make this album special. I wish more bands made music like this these days. So put down your Nirvana album, quit trying to be all cool and angst-ridden for five minutes and listen to this album. |
