Here is what people are saying about the Devo - Q: Are We Not Men A: We Are Devo!

Finally, Warner Bros. has started to remaster classic DEVO albums. I say it's about damn time! This is one of two of the first to be remastered (The other being Freedom of Choice). I am guessing that Warner Bros. will be remastering them all eventually? Years ago, Henry Rollins' Infinite Zero label remastered a lot of DEVO's old albums (I proudly own them all), but, as far as I know, never remastered Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are DEVO!, and Freedom of Choice. Well, now they have been remastered and both sound beautiful. Both albums include extra live tracks, especially this one which includes a special concert performance of the entire album from start to finish that was recorded May 6, 2009! This album really floored me by how much better it sounds than the previous version. I have owned this album on vinyl way back in the early eighties, and CD, and this is by far the best version that I have ever heard. I literally can hear sounds coming through my speakers that I have never heard before, it's that much richer. Standout tracks are Uncontrollable Urge, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Praying Hands, Mongoloid, Gut Feeling/(Slap Your Mammy) and Come Back Jonee. Buy it, Beautiful Mutants!

I first heard DEVO in 1977 on the Doctor Demento radio show in Los Angeles. The song was Mongoloid and I thought it was brilliant.
It's on this amazing record along with other great twisted funny songs like Jocko Homo, Uncontrollable Urge, an amazing cover of the Stones I Can't Get No (Satisfaction), Shrivel Up and my favorite Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy. It was produced by Brian Eno (It was 10 years later before I discovered early 70's Roxy Music...Amazing!)
When this came record out in 1978 it was so far ahead of it's time, that many of my friends would run out the room with their ears plugged when I played this for them. And the best thing about it is that it still sounds fresh today. (They still run out of the room) I got to see DEVO in concert later that year on the Duty Now For The Future Tour (Another Fantastic Record) and they played a cover of The Words Get Stuck In My Throat from the incredibly bad/great japanese monster flick "War Of The Gargantuans", needless to I've been a lifelong DEVO fan ever since.

No surprises here, a truly great cd from one of the world's most iconic bands. This is one cd you must always keep a spare copy of if you lend it to 'friends' ~ it's a keeper!

I was 16 when this album was originally released. I was listening, and really "into" Elton, Wings, ELO, Pink Floyd, GFR, Kansas... et al.

I friend bought this record and hated it, so he gave it to me.
The first listen caused scatterbrain. Each subsequent listen got easier and easier to "digest".

Wow! What an awakening this brought me! Although I was still very much into the arena rock scene, within months I was digging deeply into Talking Heads, XTC, The Fools, Fingerprintz, The Slits.... and on and on...

To this day, this album ranks very high in my soul. I turned many a military roommate onto this stuff.

I also find this album to be an incredible mood lifter. Just plain fun!

Having recently attended a once in a lifetime reunion of Devo, I decided to update my vinyl and cassettes to CDs. Are We Not Men? We Are Devo is the pinnacle of the Devo library, a wonderful celebration of those who don't conform to Madison Avenue's and Hollywood's ideals...but a human ideal in which one can strive to be the truest and purest human...a human that examines, studies, and asks questions. While it seems almost impossible that a mere collection of music can truly represent these issues, especially confronted with the cultural void presented by top 40 corporate radio and music channels that don't play music anymore, Devo smacks the listener in the ear with reality. If you want some good punk-based technocrat rock that flies in the face of today's conventions, do yourself a favor and purchase this CD. You won't regret it.

While the Devo phenomenon as a whole may be somewhat time encapsulated, this debut album has absolutely remained as cutting-edge and vibrant as the day it came out some 30 years ago. Though the band already had a great satiric concept going (de-evolution), when they teamed up with Brian Eno for this project, the stuff of demented genius was created. The sound straddles punk, new wave, and the simplistic pop ditties of the sixties. The jumpy, jagged, hypercaffeinated tunes perfectly convey Devo's warped take on pop culture, and also serve to further pop as an art form. This is not a disc that I play in heavy rotation, but it sounds fresh every time I hear it, and only gets better with time.
