This is a wonderful book. My mother used to read this to me when I was a child and now I read it to my daughter at night. It is a wonderful story of a mothers love for her child. I can not get through the book with out crying. I would recommend this book to everyone. This book teaches the lesson to love one another and hang on to this love as long as you can. My mother has breast cancer and I think this book draws on the fact that we need to take the time to love our family while we have the chance. This is not too heavy of a topic for children to grasp. Life constantly changes and death is not the only thing that gets in the way of family. Regardless of the reason we should take the time to love our family and make sure they know it. The world needs more mothers and children saying " I'll love you forever."
"One of my favorite books as a child"

When I was a kid, I would ask my grandmother to read this book to me everytime we spent time together. It was just really sweet and loving and the fact that the mother loved her son so much was very endearing. People who are calling this book creepy are calling it that because they are thinking creepy things in their own minds. Children don't think about things like that. When I was a kid, I didn't find this creepy, I was happy to see a mom love her kid so much and despite how bad he might have been behaving. This book made me cry and laugh as a kid and caused a bond with my grandmother that I will never forget. Even to this day, my grandmother sings the song to me or even just asks if I remember this book and how much she loved it. I'm so sick of what the media has done to mostly sheepish americans. It's a BOOK. It's not REAL. It's a story, that's all. Get over this garbage about creepiness and stop thinking such horrible things. This is a really good book. Or at least it was when I was a kid in the 80's and every one wasn't so spaztic about politcal correctness or overanalyzing what an author might have meant when they wrote a sweet childrens book.

"Not appropriate for children"

One of the most disturbing children's books I have ever seen. My wife purchased this after rave reviews by people we know. We both came to the same conclusion after reading it; a disturbing story about a compulsive woman that would never be exposed to our child.
In my opinion, this book has a high probability of causing long lasting subconscious effects on your child. Please, carefully read and think about the message conveyed before subjecting your young ones to this. I would argue that this book is not appropriate to read to any child.
This book has over 850 ratings, but I thought I'd share my experience with it too!
I bought this book when it first came out in the mid-80's and it became a favorite of my son's. We read it weekly for several years. I now have grandchildren and it has become their favorite.
It is a simple message about a mother loving her son/child no matter what age, no matter what. This is a timeless message and one that every child should hear daily.
Anyone who has ever gotten a baby shower gift or a baby gift from me has received this book along with whatever else was chosen!
""Love You Forever" and My Two Sons"

My boys and I have had this book for more than 18 years. It has always been our favorite. When they were toddlers the boys especially loved the rhythmic song that the mother would sing to her child as he went from infant to toddler to little boy to teenager to a grown man. And the illustrations are fabulous -- The boys got a kick out of the realistic mischief the boy in the book would get into. Each of us can still recite the song perfectly. I must have read that story 100 times! And although I still have the book, it is pretty tattered. Every since that time I planned to share this story with them when they became adults. Now that they are "grown" (19 & 22 years old) they still remember how I used to read to them all of the time, but the one book they actually remember the title of is Love You Forever. This story of the "cycle of life", and the love between a mother and her child is absolutely beautiful. I recently ordered 2 hard-cover copies to give to them as gifts -- I know they will be thrilled.
