Each book is unabridged and read by a different reader. This is a bit odd, as the character's voices change from book to book. However, all of the readers are excellent!

This is a delightful series and should be read in the original order: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; Prince Caspian; Voyage of the Dawn Treader; Silver Chair; Horse and his boy; Magician's Nephew (Chronilogically first but should be read later); Last Battle.

I read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when I was a child. I did not realize there was a complete series of books until many years later. My children read the books and told me how good they all were so I read the complete series as an adult. The books are excellent reading for children or adults.

I remember reading all these books when I was in the 4th grade. They opened a magic world for me, one that I will never forget. They translate wonderfully for today's youth, and always teach valuable lessons, while sparking the interest of the reader. Skip the movies for a while and read the originals. Forget about what you may have heard about the author's religious or political sub-text and just enjoy them for what they are.

I first read these books at the age of 19 after watching an animated TV show from 1977, called "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". The first book deals with the adventures of the Pevensie children--Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Susan, who come to stay with a professor at his country estate during WWII.

During a game of indoor hide-and-seek, Lucy hides herself in a wardrobe but realizes that her hiding place is actually a doorway into a magical world known as Narnia. Lucy meets a faun named Tumnus who takes her back to his place for tea and soon realizes that Narnia isn't such a nice place at all because it is under the rule of the White Witch, who has placed it under perpetual winter.

When Tumnus sees Lucy back to the portal, she promises that they will see each other again, but Tumnus is afraid that there may be reprecussions from the White Witch for entertaining a daughter of Eve. Back home, Lucy tells her brothers and sister about her adventure in Narnia, but nobody will believe her until they all find their way there by accident. With all four Pevensie children now in Narnia, the struggle against the White Witch begins and the children must brave adventures, hardships and betrayal within their very ranks.

The other books continue on the adventures of the Pevensie children with "Prince Caspian" and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", and successive titles. New characters are introduced and the true identity of the great Aslan, friend of the Pevensies since book one, is finally revealed.

A magical adventure with deeper messages for readers of all ages.

These books were a present from my husband. My paperback copies have been read so many times they were falling apart. These books are much sturdier then my paperback set. I was also surprised to find more illustrations in these hardbound books then in my old paperback books. The books are lovely and I look forward to a lifetime of enjoying them.
