Here is what people are saying about the Matilda (Special Edition)
5 Star Rating  "I love this!"2010-03-03

I have loved this movie since I first saw it on television when I was a child. I am glad to have the special edition with the additional content. It enhances the movie as well as the world it is set in.

5 Star Rating  "A Gifted Child, A Caring Teacher, and an Odious Child-Hating School Principal"2010-01-25
- Reviewed By Scholar and Thinker from Chicago IL, USA
If you are a teacher or student who would like to get back vicariously at an unfair school principal, this movie is especially for you. The principal in this movie, Agatha Trunchbull, is worse than a martinet: She is diabolically mean, even reminiscent of some of the SS women in charge of the defenseless prisoners at Nazi-German concentration camps during WWII.

Eight-year old prodigy Matilda had been the offspring of parents who had no time for her. They cared only about money and pleasure. Her father was a proudly-dishonest used-car dealer, about to be busted by the FBI. She basically raised herself. When entering school, Matilda met her 2nd-grade teacher, Miss Honey, and soon showed that she was years ahead of all the other students in terms of academic skills. This teacher appreciated her talents and her increasingly-obvious magical skills, took her under her wing, and became her closest friend. Miss Honey exhibited a decidedly different vision of school teaching, and childrens' needs, than did the principal. Miss Honey was no less afraid of the principal than the children of that school.

So how to deal with the indifferent parents and the horrible child-hating principal? Watch this hilarious movie and you will be entertained and surprised.

I have always liked this movie. Bought it for my 4 year old granddaughter and she loves it, watches it almost every day.

2 Star Rating  "Characters a bit too cartoonish"2010-01-03
- Reviewed By TurtleDom from Washington, DC
I know Matilda is a kids' movie, but still is just gets ridiculously cartoonish. Matilda is a do-gooder genius. The parents are white trash who watch TV all day and curse. The worst is Headmistress Trunchbull, played by Pam Ferris. She is a sadist, physically abusing kids and making one eat chocolate cake until he nearly vomited. In fact, some of the scenes don't seem appropriate for a kids' movie at all. Also, the camera angles are sometimes odd (this is especially problematic because this version of the film isn't widescreen). Fortunately, Mara Wilson's charm and absolute cuteness save the film. She was definitely a good choice for the role.

4 Star Rating  "Not exactly like the book, but got the feeling of it"2009-12-18

When does a movie ever stay true to a book (other than the BBC version of "Pride and Prejudice" ;)

It was a fun movie, and a good incentive to get my daughters to let me read this as our read-aloud book.
