"As Good As It Gets for Romantic Comedy" | 2009-06-24 |

| Calling this fantastic film a romantic comedy is misleading because it is so much better than what we typically label as romantic comedy. Helen Hunt is fantastic as the nice waitress to Mr. Mean Jack Nicholson who gives a stellar performance as a sharp tongued obsessive compulsive unable to find any joy in life. Greg Kinnear and Cuba Gooding Jr. also do a great job in this film. This makes you examine what makes a good couple and how two total mismatches can come together. Power Path to Love |

When things, most of the time challenges, happen that bring our vulnerability up front, we begin to re-exam the meaning of life and transform to, hopefully better human-beings.
The characters created in this movie are realistic and the plot is ideal and dreamy. Here we meet Melvin who suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and has been forced/pushed to his lonely safety corner, Carol who is afraid to face herself and hidden in her son's demanding illness, and Simon the gay artist who seems to have a promising future until he got brutally mugged. With such great social difficulties, luckily Melvin is rich and he finds confidence in work. Carol the poor single mom waitress is blessed with a supportive mother and a good spirited son..... When all people meet, they bring each other new perspectives and dimensions to life. It makes me laugh and cry watching it and feel satisfied afterword.
Although we can't always expect comedy in life, but sometimes things do result in a way that in the end it will all make sense ~ thank you for reminding us by making this wonderful film.

| I don't believe this is Nicholson's greatest performance ( and his career has been filled with so many phenominal portrayals after all... ), but it's definitely one of his funniest. Helen Hunt, and Greg Kinnear, on the other hand, are absolutely incredible, as Melvin's ( Nicholson's ) love interest, and a gay, artist neighbor respectively. Rarely has a romantic comedy been as insightful, moving, or intellectually satisfying as director, James L. Brooks' AS GOOD AS IT GETS ( which he co-wrote ). This is an utterly delectible film that should be in any Nicholson collection, or in any comedy collection. |

"Jack Nicholson's second GREATEST performance ever!" | 2009-02-23 |

Jack Nicholson's GREATEST performance is in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". His second GREATEST performance is in this film. He is so GOOD in this film it's INCREDIBLE. I always tell people that Hollywood's two GREATEST actors are Nicholson and DeNiro. "As Good as It Gets" is just PROOF of this fact.
I would argue that the scene at the end of the movie where Melvin tells Carol how he truly feels about her might be the FINEST moment of Jack Nicholson's career. How many actors could have MASTERED that scene like Nicholson? Very few if ANY!
I am delighted that Helen Hunt won the Best Actress Oscar for her UNFORGETTABLE performance. Greg Kinnear is so GOOD as Simon that I feel he should have won an Oscar too.
Too bad they don't have an award for "Most Classic Dog" for Verdell!

| This is a great movie. It is a great romantic comedy with the main character, played by Jack Nicholson, has OCD. It is sad/dramatic at times but overall it is pretty amusing. I think the best actor in the entire movie is the dog. The dog is just amazing. I absolutely love this movie and have watched it over a dozen times. It never gets old. |

If this is as good as it gets, we're all in trouble. The only part I liked was the end credits. Jacky is his usual obnoxious annoying self. Helen Hunt is her nasally annoying usual self. Greg plays the oh so painfully stereotypical gay character with HIV. Nicolson is the typical alpha male homophobe and Hunt is the only somewhat nice person in the movie. I literally had to force myself to watch this movie from start to finish. I'm so glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater, and I still can't believe this won any awards. Boring, generic dialogue. I'm sorry but other than "The Shining" Nicolson just annoys the living %$^% out of me. Another Hollyweird effort to prove to all of us how enlightened they are and how stupid we are. A major yawn from start to finish. Boring directing, dreadful script, unmemorable acting. I'm sure this movie has fans, but really considering how many awards this movie won, how many people actually remember it? I do, but not for the right reasons. I'd put this movie in my top twenty of all time worst movies any day. Note to Hollyweird, stop making movies about gay people if all you do is either depict us as dysfunctional (Brokeback Mountain) Psychotic (Basic Instinct) or to be laughed at (In & Out). How about one positive movie about gay people instead of the usual mind numbing stupidity we've come to expect. As Good As It Gets??? If it had been any worse it would have been straight to video. AVOID!!!!!!!!!
