The Original TMNT are back!
I was always a fan of TMNT ever since, back in the 1980's, I ask the young Army Lieutenant why the "heck" he had turtles with Martial Art's weapons on his desk? The Lieutenant stammered that he had been roommates or friends, can't remember which, with the cartoon's creator in college. Little did he know that I worked for a SiFi Game Company on the side or that I was close friends with the then editor of, "Dragon Magazine". I was mildly interested, so I looked into the "underground" comic that featured TMNT and fell in love with it. The deeper than normal comic book story line and edgier banter were what I think grabbed my attention.
Jump forward a few years to the original TV cartoon. A big disappointment in my eyes. The animation was far too commercial, or what Jack Kirby would call, "industrial", the banter was not edgy and the dialogue was abysmal and pizza obsessed.
Jump forward again, 2009. Kids and Grandson are up for the 4th. Grandson is in love with, (don't get ahead of me here), you guessed it, TMNT. As I tried to run herd on a way too energetic 4 year old one night, I asked him if he wanted to watch cartoons. Of course he come bouncing up with TMNT. I sigh and say, "O.K., we'll watch these", as I reluctantly fire up the DVD Player. Much to my surprise this was not the original cartoon. The stories are much better, the animation is border line Aname and rather well done. Granted that the plots are not quit as gritty as the original comic's, (but only slightly dumbed down for young kids), but they are 100 times better than the original cartoon's. I ended up watching the whole set of DVD's long after the little tike had fallen asleep.
All & all Highly recommended if you were a fan of the original comic's. If You were a fan to the original cartoons, go rent one of each an watch them one after the other. I think that you will find that this is the better of the two.

"What box set?" | 2007-07-15 |

Product came in paper envelopes. No individual cover, no box, no title, no nothing. This seller saved a lot on shipping. Without the covers, it's impossible to tell what the movies are about. For the money I paid for the items, I expected more, at least a way to identifiy them. |

"Surprisingly good" | 2005-11-27 |

This version of the Turtles outshines the original in everyway. There is more action and less fooling around. The turtles actually use their weapons now. This one takes place in a much darker setting, and their personalities are extremely close to the movie. Gone are the annoying characters from the original who really had no purpose at all and Shredder is a nasty piece of work, his ruthlessness and lack of pity is crazy. I wont get into deep detail of all the episodes but if you haven't seen them already your in for a pretty good ride. My only gripe is beyond Vol 7. The series really started to plunge story wise.

| This new version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which was made in 2003 is better then the old school. Cartoon Network needs to pit it back on Miguzi. Their not so much obsess with pizza that much and the show looks a little darker, the fighing is better it's more anime style. They still have their sense of humer and own personalities. The shredder is an evil alien disguised in a armed body that looks like a human. The turtle found April Oneal who ues to work for Stockman until she found out he was making these little mechines call mousers like it's suppose to stop New Yorks rat problem but he is just insain. |

"Might be better off if you buy seperate and skip disk 3." | 2005-01-31 |

| I like the new Turtles, this set will give you the first major plot arch where the turtles finally meet Shredder in battle and defeat him. Disc 3 is so catagorically lackluster I'd suggest you just buy discs 1, 2, and 4 and skip it. You'll miss out a little on Stockman getting disfigured, but it's just not worth it. |

"Great gift for a new series fan" | 2004-06-27 |

| This is the perfect gift for a fan of the new series who doesn't already own any of the DVDs. This package is the first four volumes (DVDs) with three episodes each, plus the added bonuses of a storage box and four Ninja Turtle figures. This will probably end up being a collector's item too. The only bad thing is, I wish they had done the new series in letterbox and/or in Dolby Surround. If you were considering buying one or two of the first few DVDs anyway, definitely buy this package instead. |
