My son, now 4 1/2, has been enjoying this video for two years. The footage is great and provides enough going-down-the-tracks imagery to satisfy him. We enjoy the narration, provided by an adult and children, and the words used for the alphabet are a cut above the usual selection. A favorite is N for Numbers, in which lots of trains' numbers are shown, and then the sequence is repeated. As a mom, I appreciate the emphasis on train safety, as well as the description of the train's staff as a team. For a very young child, this video has depth in a very accessible presentation. For an older child, the details will please. We have given this as a gift, and it was well-received by our young fellow train enthusiasts. |

"Simple format, but introduces children to REAL railroading" | 2008-07-14 |

| We received this as a Christmas present, and my children loved it! Best of all, the video utilizes some of the best preserved railroads in the country such as the Durango & Silverton and Illinois Railway Museum. Someone gave it a bad review and said it was only for "model train enthusiasts". I'm not sure which video he was watching since it contains real life trains (Santa Fe & Burlington Northern) as well as museum trains and only on the letter 'Z' does it even show an LGB set around someone's pool. I would even recommed that most adults watch it once, just for the educational value of seeing today's railroads in action! |

| My 2.75 year old is a bona fide train addict. Although he likes Thomas, he prefers the real thing. I bought The Alphabet Train in an attempt to sneak in a little education along with his trains. At the beginning, preschool boys sing the ABC song, and then the narrator presents each letter of the alphabet along with words that are associated with trains. The letter is first shown on the screen, then the word or words, so the child gets to hear and see the letters and words. The narrator also teaches the children about different kinds of trains, how trains work, and there is a lot of information about train safety. The preschool children's voices are heard throughout the video as well. My son LOVES it. Not only does he get his train fix, but he is learning his letters. His 5 year old brother is learning new words, too! If you have a child who loves real trains, get this one - its educational value makes it okay to play it over and over! |

| We bought this video as a souvenir after a ride on a train, but my son loves to watch it often (he's almost 4 now) Each letter has several video clips of real trains in action and he loves to tell me what letter and train is coming next when we watch it together. |

| My 4 1/2 year old son had a long car ride and this was one of the DVDs he asked to see over and over again. Its good for this age group and for those kids who love trains. The aphabet part is nice as well, never hurts to sneak a little education in at the same time. |

I bought the video tape version of this movie because my 3 year-old son loves trains. He absolutely loves this movie! He has learned to say his ABC's and recognize a lot of his letters. He has learned a great deal about trains and we have discussed such words as "danger" and "gauge". He now looks for railroad crossing signs everywhere we go and can tell you how to be safe around trains. He can also tell you the difference between a steam and diesel engine and identify the correct train just by looking at them. It is very educational on lots of levels. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the video is not of very good quality--it is "jumpy" and I can't correct it with tracking. I am now buying the DVD because my son loves the movie so much and I am hoping the digital quality will make it better to watch. |

| If you are sick of Thomas videos, this is a great video for your Young train enthusiasts. My 3 year-old twin sons have learned quite a bit of train jargon from this. It is slow but great for long car rides in the DVD player (if you can stand the narrator's voice). Instead of saying "put the trains together, Mommy", my son says "Couple the freight car to the engine" - no joke! It is informative and a break from other train videos. |

| My 3 year old loves trains & trucks and was bored by this DVD. He is learning his ABC's and I'd hoped this DVD would help him. It did not. My 6, 8 & 9 year olds know their ABC's and they thought the DVD was boring. It seems of interest only to model train enthusiasts in need of remedial training. For kids, this purchase was a waste of money. |
