Here is what people are saying about the Bullitt
"THE ASSASSINS ALMOST 'DODGE'D A BULLITT!!" | 2009-10-31 |
| - Reviewed By baberuth7 |
Most people remember this film for perhaps the best (or one of the best) car chase scenes in film history with Steve McQueen (driving himself) in a Mustang Fastback chasing two gangsters in a Dodge Charger up and down the hills of San Francisco. It is memorable to be sure, but the movie, as a whole, is decent. While there is some brief but bloody violence it's not just a shoot 'em up film. Steve McQueen insisted that it be realistic and as a result you do get inside the character's heads. You experience detective work as much of it really happens, methodical with patience. Bullitt is assigned to what should be a fairly routine witness protection weekend assignment at the request of Senator Chalmers (Vaughn) who is on a crusade to clean up the mob and get credit for it - the credit is what he mostly cares about. This is his star witness and the hearings will be his stage. However, the assignment quickly goes bad and Bullitt wants to find out who leaked the location and who are the assassins. There are enough twists and turns to keep you involved and, of course, there's the car chase. Roger Ebert likes it because the role of the stoic cop Bullitt is so close to the real Steve McQueen.

"Best Car Chase Ever !!" | 2009-10-29 |

| I purchased this DVD about a month ago. I had it on VHS but that didn't do this movie justice. So when I found out it was on Blu-ray I jumped at the chance to buy it. I am a Big Steve McQueen fan. I think this is one of his best movies. People always talk about the car chase in this movie & you will not be disappointed. Plus Steve did all of his own stunts back then. The chase scene with Steve & the bad guy on the runway was exciting as well. If you love Steve McQueen then this should be at the top of your list. |

"The Best Car Chase I Ever Seen!" | 2009-10-11 |
| - Reviewed By max_aka_iron_s_flint |
Bullit (1968) is an icon in crime & action movies, with the unforgettable car chase!
The story is about Detective Bullit who is charged by politician Walter Chalmers to take into custody and protect 48 hours a key witness against the Mafia.
Even if Bullit take all precautions Mob's hit men succeed in wounding the witness and his guard. Chalmers menaces to blame Police Department and Bullit personally for the failure.
The witness dies at hospital and Bullit, with the help of a physician, smuggles the corpse and hide it in the Morgue as a Joe Doe. Then he leads his team in desperate search of the mobsters. What follows is the chronicle of the search against all odds and pressures.
Steve McQueen as Lt. Bullit gives one of his best characterizations, this is not little thing, considering his previous performances in "The Magnificent Seven" (1960), "The Great Escape" (1963) and the remarkable "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1968); the future ones in "The Towering Inferno" (1974) and "Tom Horn" (1980).
A very young and stylish Jacqueline Bisset fleshes Cathy, Bullit's fiancée; prolific Robert Vaughn gives Chalmers a poignant interpretation; Robert Duvall, more noted after his appearance in "The Godfather" (1972), acts as a taxi driver. All the cast performs over standard.
Director Peter Yates is at his best, only surpassed, IMHO by his film "The Dresser" (1983). Special mention must be done for Frank Keller editing awarded with an Oscar, William Fraker's cinematography and Argentinean Lalo Schifrin's musical score.
It is an extraordinary movie for all those interested in crime films and movie fans of every genre. Do not miss it!

"Bullit was great to watch but..." | 2009-10-01 |

| While the movie it self was great, the DVD had a deep scratch on one side. The outside package was not damaged but the center spindles that held the DVD in place was broken alowing it to move around and be scratched. This DVD had Wide screen on one side and standard on the other, only one side was damaged and I was able to watch the movie. |
