Here is what people are saying about the Treasure Island

This is the best performance of this story that I have ever seen.

They got EVERYTHING right: acting, cinematography, music (awesome score from the Chieftans)....

I remain completely mystified as to why this prodcution is not available on DVD!!!

Fraser Heston and a great cast made the quintessential versionof R.L. Stevenson's
classic! Great perfomances by Oliver Reed, Christopher Lee, Pete Postlethwaite
and a young Christian Bale! And, of course, Charleton Heston. I do not understand why
this is not available in DVD.

If we judge a movie not by the script alone but by the acting, costumes
and scenes, this movie has it all.
Everyone has the book to start from in making the movie:
some have chosen to make a children's movie and made vanilla pirates
without the violence or language of the original.
I think this movie with some realistic blood and guts
filming is more faithful to the original
than any other version that I have seen.
I liked the movie.

Only one negative - The picture quality on the VHS is not very good, even for 1990.

Positives - The cast, sets, costumes, direction and dialogue. Oliver Reed steals the first part and Charlton Heston is superb as a conniving but likeable Silver. I admired Christian Bale in Rescue Dawn and I could see the man and actor he would become in his role as Jim Hawkins.

We want a re-mastered DVD version!

After seeing 1990 version of movie Treasure Island on cable TV, & since for some really strange reason this movie is not yet available on DVD, I recently purchased a VHS videotape copy at Amazon.com from the seller "barblegarble".
For those who like pirate movies, the 1990 movie version of Treasure Island (with Charlton Heston playing Long John Silver) is absolutely positively the finest pirate movie ever made -- bar none!!!
And while the quality of the VHS tape I just purchased is excellent, hopefully this great movie will soon be made available on DVD.

Better pirates and more memorable lines than any of the Pirates of the Caribbean flicks. And arguably the best version of Treasure Island yet filmed.

I have mixed feelings about Heston, considering him to be generally pretty hammy (with the notable exception of his "Will Penny"), but he shines in this film. His Long John Silver is an amiable cutthroat, just the right mixture of rough good humor and murderousness.

When this was first broadcast, I videotaped it and my two young sons and I wore that VHS out watching this exciting tale of young Jim Hawkins and his quest for buried treasure over and over. Tame enough for my kids, but equally engrossing for this adult.

Turner, you guys need to put this out on DVD before I have grandchildren that I need to keep entertained! Do it sooner rather than later. Don't make me come down there!

"I'll stove in your blockhouse like a rum puncheon! Them that dies will be the lucky ones!"

Arrggh!

More rum!
