"Great Story Of Jesus" | 2009-11-15 |

| This is a great movie depicting Jesus spreading the gospel, traveling with the apostles and ending with the cruxifiction and ressurection. For a movie that is over 3 hours, I think it flows well. With many movies like this made during this era (1950-1970), The movie features great actors (Like Charlton Heston as John the Baptist), Fantastic visuals (The landscape shots are breathtaking) and costumes, this movie is a classy rendition of the Life and Death of Christ. |

"Unbiblical and pretentious" | 2009-08-23 |

| No wonder this movie was a flop when it was released. It is pretentious and makes up its own story line instead of following any of the Gospel stories. It has events all out of sequence or distorted. Lots of shots of Arizona hills and gullies - pretty boring before long. Of all the modern movies about Jesus, this is definitely the worst. Try "Jesus of Nazareth" for beauty and drama combined. |

"Widescreen Makes A Big Difference" | 2009-05-22 |

This film gets toasted a lot, even by Christians, and I think unfairly. Yes, if you know your Gospels, you hear Jesus' speeches way out of order, and a few other things aren't 100 percent on the mark, but some of it is nit-picking.
After a long absence and my first look at this on the ultra widescreen (2.75:1) DVD, I was very impressed. For instance, the scene with the Last Supper shows everyone at the table, which is impossible to do in a formatted-to-TV mode. This, and other similar panoramic shots that are very impressive. gave me a new appreciation of the work director George Stevens did here.
Upon that recent viewing, I was please that none of Jesus' quotes are inaccurate and I have never had a problem with Max Von Sydow's portrayal of Christ. He had a penetrating eyes and spoke his lines with authority. Why he, too, gets bashed by a few people is unfair. He was just fine.
It's a sanitized message, nothing that "preachy" to turn off the unchurched, but I do think it was a bit too slow to go three hours and 20 minutes. Lopping off 15-30 minutes might have helped. It's still worth viewing, no matter what your "religious" views.

"I agree with some of the criticism" | 2009-04-21 |

| My favorite thing about this film was Charlton Heston as John the Baptist. I thought he was great, but the rest of the characters, hmmm I don't know if they meant to potray the life of Christ that way. But I do agree the King of Kings was better and will always be my favorite film about Christ. But I also love Jesus of Nazareth. |
