Bob Clark is the most underrated filmmaker of his generation. And this is the film that made him one of the most beloved. While early 80s comedies relied on star power and heavy gag-driven comedy, "Porky's" appeared with great realistic serio-comedy and a bunch of natural unknown actors.
The film follows horny teenagers. You'd expect it to just be stupid storytelling and non-stop tasteless humor. But Clark fleshed out the characters into broad, believable, flawed humans. Each one has an interesting backstory or purpose.
Very compelling in that "coming-of-age" way that doesn't take itself too seriously. Best description: A dirty "American Grafitti". |

Somehow, I thought this movie was funnier in my memory. Now that I've seen it again, I see that it's mostly a cliched comedy, with a bunch of jerks and dorks who are hard to sympathize with. The only exceptions are the Jewish fellow, Brian, and the cop who helps his brother and pals get revenge after Porky and his pals beat them up.
Crass humor abounds, Miss Honeywell earns her legendary nickname of Lassie, the description of the wanted poster for the male private part is somewhat amusing, and there is an explosive yet somehow anticlimactic ending.
Okay for a few laughs at most. There are much stronger 1980s comedies to be seen, however.

| I love and appreciate this fine movie, it is a hilarious raunchy classic,Porky's never has a dull moment. Favorite Line" So Much wool you could Knit a Sweater!" laughing my butt off. |

This PORKY'S flick is the original and still the best out of all 3 PORKY'S installments and is still my favorite one of them all to this very day.
Additionally, PORKY'S was one of the funniest crude teen movies in 1982 that very similar to FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH and ZAPPED since PORKY'S was also a movie about typical teenage boys and girls and what they deal with during their everyday lives in high school including peer pressures, adolescence, growing pains, premarital sex, teens humping around, spying in the girls gym, breaking numerous rules, etc., except PORKY'S was a movie that was supposedly from the 50's and PORKYS is even dirtier with even more sex and nudity than ZAPPED or FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH since PORKY'S had a lot more nudity and T&A than ZAPPED and FAST TIMES even had, since PORKY'S even had nude scenes in the girls lockerroom in full frontal nudity, unlike FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH and ZAPPED.
So if you liked FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH and/or ZAPPED and if like seeing girls tatas, guys weenies, gals coochies, and seeing guys and gals butt naked, you'll more than likely approve of this movie.
It was also interesting seeing Kim Cattrall in this movie as the sexy P.E. coach(Ms. Lynn Honeywell) a.k.a. Lassie before Kim became a superstar doing various movies and before she became a co-star on the show SEX & THE CITY.
As a matter of fact the scene where Ms. Honeywell(Kim Cattrall) loses her virginity through a different kind of Physical Education by doing hubba hubba with one of her fellow PE teachers in the boys locerromm was one of my favorite scenes in the movie, especially since Kim Cattrall is such a hottie along with the fact that was just about the only sex scene I can recall ever seing Kim Cattrall do throughout her entire showbiz career.
In addition to what made me enjoy this movie so much was due to the fact that I was living in my hometown(El Centro, CA) at the time when this movie was released back in the Spring of 1982, but this movie at least gave me a little something to look forward to since the whole Imperial Valley is such a boring place that is too hot and has nothing to do for fun or entertainment since Imperial County is not your typical community and why the Imperial Valley is only okay if you're an Imperial County resident who is either married or a cop.
This movie also takes me back to memory lane to when we had the recession going on back in 1981-1982 during Ronald Reagans presidency. |
