Here is what people are saying about the Trog
"'Joan's Worst Film"" | 2009-10-03 |
| - Reviewed By Terry Richard from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada |
| For ardent Joan Crawford fans it was distressing when it was announced that Warner Brothers would be releasing "Trog" on DVD because at the time of the DVD release there were many better Crawford films that had yet to be released in this manner. Buy this film only if you are a true Crawford fan, not because the movie is good or a classic. Even Joan Crawford hated the film once saying after its release, "if I had seen Trog advertised on a marquee and if I wasn't a Christian Scientist I would have contemplated suicide". Joan did the film because at this time in her life Hollywood had turned its back on her. The film was shot in England during the summer of 1969 and it was the second film she did for Herman Cohen (the first being "Berserk!"). Crawford even supplied her own wardrobe often getting ready for scenes in the back seat of her car. Like Joan stated "any films that I did after "Baby Jane" were terrible. I did them for the money or because I was bored or broke or both. I hope they have all been withdrawn and are never heard from again". Joan played a scientist who befriends an ape-like man who goes on a killing rampage. Even at 65, though, Crawford looked impeccable and she acted as though she were filming "Grand Hotel". She gave this film her all although she probably knew it was the end of her acting career. The saddest part about this movie is not just the fact that it was Crawford's last film performance but the fact that Crawford's role as a wonderful Hollywood actress had come to an end because she was older. It saddens me to think how an industry that made millions off Crawford had turned its back on her. Joan would continue to have a few roles in TV shows up until 1972 then she fully retired becoming a recluse. "Trog" does contain the trailer that accompanied the film's release but there are no bonus features. God Bless you Joan. |

"Forget Citizen Kane!" | 2009-08-13 |

| You can have your Citizen Kanes and your Seventh Seals and your Godfathers. Give me TROG! This is by far one of the greatest films ever produced. Starring the one and only Betty Davis, uh I mean Joan Crawford, it has lasted the test of time and will only get better as more children are shown this great piece of art. Ms. Crawford stars as a passionate scientist who only wants to connect with a savage beast that has been found in the the caves of rural England. It is truly Shelleyesque to see the gentle creature attacked and scorned for its natural behavior. Among the many town people who are afraid of TROG is the old timer who played Alfred in the Tim Burton Batman films. He is actually the real villain of the film and his evil antics finally catch up with him in a terrifying scene with TROG that is part Empire Strikes Back and part Richard the Third. My girlfriend and I shared a bottle of Duvel as we watched this film and it was one of the great moments in our life. I had seen it many times before but this was her first viewing. After the tragic finale I looked over to see tears running down her face. She didn't even cry at the end of Scindler's List! So please do yourself a favor and throw out your Herzog and crappy French New Wave. Open your eyes, heart, and soul and watch TROG! |

"No, Trog!!!" | 2009-05-03 |

| Campy Joan Crawford at her best AND worst! It's a hilarious movie with incredibly primitive make-up (Trog AND JC!) and even worse 'special effects.' Whether you're a fan of JC, movie kitsch, or heavy eyebrows (Trog AND JC!), you'll LOVE this DVD! |

"Oh No She Didn't!" | 2008-06-10 |
| - Reviewed By D. Hinson from atlanta, ga usa |
I can hardly believe this movie had escaped me for all my cult movie loving years--until now! Well, I can die happy! La Crawford acts her brains out in every ridiculous scene in Trog. She manages to utilize the many devices at her disposal (as usual) to conjure up a character who is smarter and more in control than anyone else in the room. It must have been written into her contracts that she have access to the latest technological gadgets and gizmos--she once again makes the most of said devices here. And of course, she did a stint of hand modeling to prove how ageless her character was--painted nails and all. With a treasure trove of ridiculous moments that rival her gunslinging, piano playing, lesbian stalker fleeing scenes in Johnny Guitar, Crawford goes for the Best Actress in the Universe award in every scene. See Joan playing catch with the trogladyte, teaching him to wind up a walking doll, or scolding him into submission. You have to give her credit for looking past the Bad--and I do mean "Bad" with a capital B--Halloween mask, and seeing the sweet harmless creature within. She lets him roam the property at her institute freely, and even encourages her daughter to see no harm in his unchained presence--even though he's already killed one spelunker by beating him to death with his fists while a fellow cave digger witnesses the heinous crime. Perhaps Trog wasn't as harmless as Joan thought--he might have been, at least in my estimation, possibly the best recommendation she could have to finally meet her maker--bad karma and all! Nothing could be scarier than being in this! |
