Every Christmas season one of the cable channels airs holiday specials each day throughout the month of December. And every year I wait for "The First Christmas", tape it and watch it, but then inevitably end up misplacing the tape by the time the next Christmas comes around. This year I won't have that problem as my son purchased this special here for me from the Amazon Marketplace and I am thrilled to finally have a copy of my very own! This is my very favorite Christmas special and I think it's one of the best the team of Rankin-Bass produced.
The actual complete title of the program is "The First Christmas Snow" and it tells the story a young shepherd boy named Lucas who is struck by lightning one night while out in a thunderstorm and left blind. He is discovered and taken in by three kind nuns from a local abbey, Sisters Theresa, Jean and Catherine. It is two weeks before Christmas and Lucas is allowed to remain with them at the abbey for the holiday but afterward he will have to be sent to an orphanage. During his stay at the abbey, the Sisters invite Lucas to participate along with the local village children in a production of the Nativity play and by the end of the program, Lucas receives a miracle in more ways than one.
This is an immensely heartwarming and charming Christmas special and should not be missed by anyone who desires to keep the true spirit of the Christmas season close at hand. Angela Lansbury is wonderful as the voice of Sister Theresa, and her version of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" is a delight! Highly, highly recommended!
"Anxiously awaiting a DVD release of this classic!"

I can't wait to share it with my husband and my children who have never seen it. Husband thought I was hallucinating when I told him about it and couldn't find it online.
I rate this film 5-stars because the animation is spectacular and is an excellent family film to watch, during the Christmas season.
Rankin/Bass Productions made a winner with this delightful Christmas film.
Of course anything with Rankin/Bass on it is almost always a good thing!
A DVD version needs to be released.

This is a truly unusual cartoon, by today's standards. It is less concerned with what one may get from Christmas than what one may give. It brings home the true meaning of the holiday, yet is still festive and entertaining.
Take home this classic treasure, and you'll look on giving with a whole new attitude. It will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside!

The First Christmas Snow is a cute and touching Christmas special from Rankin and Bass and features Angela Lansbury as the voice of a nun who helps take care of a little blind shepherd boy and though this is shown every year on The Fox Family Channel (It was show about two or three times so far this December of 2005) I wish it would be transferred to DVD!
This is a very good Christmas movie for your collection. ABC Family rarely shows it anymore, so if you can get a copy, consider yourself fortunate. The story is a good one for the family. It is typical Rankin-Bass work - classic!
Like many of the Rankin-Bass specials, I am hoping that this show will be made available on DVD.
