"Best Version of the Classic! Highly Recommended!" | 2009-09-04 |

The Franco Zeffirelli production of "Romeo and juliet" is by far my all time favorite version of the classic play. Staring Olivia Hussey as Juliet, this movie really captures the feel of the period and brings the story to life. The sets and costumes were simply perfect and the feast scene with the dancing and moving song is perhaps the most powerful movie memory I have from my teen years. The emotion of the movie still brings a tear to my eye at the end.
We watched this with our teen daughter who wanted to try out for her senior class play. She read along and practiced the lines to get the emotions correct.
This is a fantastic story, brought to life in a stunning movie. Highly Recommended! |

| I remember when this movie first came out, all the high school kids who hated Shakespeare flocked to the theater and had their eyes and their minds and their hearts opened in a new way. The photography is incredible. This movie is a 'must see' by everyone. I just purchased it so I can watch it again with my 13-year-old granddaughter, who is already a Shakespeare fan. |

| This is a wonderful movie depicting the greatest love story of all time. By using teenage actors, Leonard Whiting & the beautiful Olivia Hussey, Franco Zefferelli made this Shakespereian tragedy timeless. The dialogue is superb along with Nino Rota's fantastic score. I remember standing on line with my very pregnant wife waiting to see this film in June of 1969. Anyone who has ever been in love will appreciate this film. |

| This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Nothing is hotter than seeing Romeo's butt in the consummation scene. Immature as it may sounds it still makes me giddy, alright!? Hollywood can never outdo this classic, however hard they try. |

A poet should approach love with a degree of innocence; so that, as an audience we seem to embrace the nuances of grace and balance. Soyez doux. We seem perfectly at ease. Lis. To a degree the sweep of love is different than the calm of love in its sunset; so embraced by Shakespeare in his play Romeo & Juliet; here filmed by the gifted filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli and staring the superb thespians, Leonard Whiting (as Romeo) and Olivia Hussey (as Juliet), who are equally matched by a cast of brilliant players.
Perhaps, in this film, we observe the delicate crescendo of unfinished love ou le crescendo délicat d'un amour non fini with Juliet. Her sensuous look is replaced by a cry for devotion: Le regarde sensuel remplacé par une crie de dévotion. We know Juliet has lost her husband to a great tragedy. We feel her deep cries: Les soupirs langissantes, plus, profondes soupires, des cries, et puis la peine.
This film had exceptional intimacy with emotional depth ou intimacé exceptionnel de profondeur émotif! It is true, as Shakespeare conveyed in this play, we can voice beauty, grace, and balance into a given day regardless of the "pression et tension" so evident in that very day. We voice a deeper meaning through our words; as the playwright does so eloquently in his drama. The day surrenders itself to our quiet petitions; yes, our two young lovers prayed in the balcony scene: am I right?. I believe we can learn from great tragedy how to handle the tragedies in our own life. If this is true, then we can learn the soft voice of prayer from our Romeo and his Juliet, and within the new day, we can proceed with confidence ou procedez avec confiance.

"The BEST EVER production of Romeo and Juliet" | 2009-05-31 |

| This production of the legendary Shakespeare play is the best out there. Many other productions are just crap because the actors have no feeling in their lines or it just doesn't seem right. I saw this film a few weeks ago in my reading class. Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting portray the star crossed lovers beautifully. The lines are said with feeling and meaning, just the way Shakespeare would have wanted. The actors chosen to portray all the characters are so believeable you would think the characters they portray are who they really are. None of the lines are screwed up, I would know because prior to seeing this play, my class also read it. The location the film is shot also looks they way it would during the time this was set at, as does the clothing. Overall, the amazing location, wonderful character portrayal, and believable actors tie together to make this the AWESOMEST Shakespearean tragedy film EVER. Oh, and you may not have guessed from most of my review, but I'm only 13 years old. |
