I was searching for CDs to recommend to a friend having a baby and read through some of the negative reviews. I had to add my positive comments. We played this since the day my kids were born--it was just the right mix of slow & fast for babies. They are about to turn one and love it. I can sing any of the songs (particularly the first one) and they will instantly smile, even if fussy. I think some of the bad reviews were for older kids, so we haven't reached that age. I find They Might be Giants (recommended by others) to be a little abrasive for small children and we haven't really connected with their albums yet.

My husband said it best, "Sometimes I forget this is a kid's CD." My 9 month old daughter loves the La La La La Lemon Song by Barenaked Ladies. I love the CD because it is so listenable compared to most children's CD's. The classic children's songs are recognizable, but fresh. I would definitely recommend this CD. Of the three "For the Kids" CD's, I think this and No. 3 are the best.

it puts my 1 and half year old to sleep--but only by the end of the CD since the slow songs are interspersed with the more upbeat songs. Kind of an odd mix, really. All of us, my little guy included, like They Might Be Giants 123 way better--both for their catchy, clever lyrics and upbeat music.

This CD is not a high-pitched kiddie CD. It has great artists and is quite enjoyable.

I bought this album because I like a lot of the artists that contributed. I ended up only really liking a few of the songs. My daughter, who is five, thinks it is "sad songs." Maybe it is geared for older kids. I recommend listening to all the clips before buying to make sure it suits your taste. I clicked on one, loved it, and found out it is the only song I love on the whole thing!
