"Great overall conditioning work-out in a beautiful, peaceful setting"

What a wonderful surprise to expect a boring, mundane work-out, yet instead see magnificent scenes of Hawaii and hear a background of relaxing music-beautiful! Suzanne Deason moves eloquently from exercise to exercise without "overdoing" any area. There is not stress placed on the joints. You can "feel it" the next day, but not to the point of excess soreness or exhaustion. I felt stronger and taller (with better posture) after only a couple of days. In fact, I am so relaxed and at peace after doing this workout that I sleep like a baby. I have made this work-out my "time for me." If I don't get to do it everyday, I feel like I have been cheated out of the recovery time I need to unwind from the stresses of the day. I am going to buy the DVD and mats (Pilates baskets) for my friends as Christmas presents. If they receive half of the benefit that I have from the work-out, it will have been well worth it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
"Effective Pilates Workout"

I'm in good shape. I do pilates and core and yoga classes at the gym and I lift weights and do cardio. This is a challenging video for me to get through and in a good way. If you read the reviews that say this is an easy class, its because those people aren't engaging their core correctly. I like the fact that it has a creating awareness section that helps you connect to your core muscles on days you may need that and you can skip over that section on days you don't need it. I find all of Susan Deeson's videos to be challenging and positive. Again, disregard the reviews that says this workout is "easy". They aren't doing it right and if you are a beginner, even if its kind of boring take time to do the creating awareness section so you can get the most out of engaging your core.
"The best pilates video ever"

This was the first pilates video I used. I had to practice at it for a really long time. But after I got the hang of it and got the point of the breathing and which muscles to use, it was like a miracle. I started out at the lowest level and even that was really hard for me. But I kept at it and now I can do most of the moves on the hardest level. I was suprised when muscles I didn't even know I had became sculpted and defined. This video also set a foundation of knowledge and strength for other videos I have used that go really fast and could seriously hurt someone if they don't know how to use their core. I highly recommend this video to anyone new to pilates!!!
"Great workout for beginners"

This pilates video is great. It has three different levels of difficulty and two different lengths for each level so you can start slow and build up. The moves seems easy but if done correctly they can really challenge you and create smooth muscles. I recommend this to pilates beginners and people with joint problems. It works!
This DVD is WAY to slow paced and will probably be useless to everyone but COMPLETE beginners or people completely out of shape. I am a 25 year old male, so I'm probably not the target demographic of home exercise DVDs, but I bought this DVD as a beginner to pilates (and I wasn't in very good shape at all) and it was even boring then.
There is WAY too much time between each exercise. In the full version of the video, she explains all three modifications which takes forever. The DVD has the option of watching the easiest or second easiest modifications alone (which is slightly faster, although she still takes way too long between each exercise), but you can only view the full, non-modified exercises along with the other two. This seems odd, because the more advanced you are at pilates, the more emphasis you should put on flow between exercises... so why isn't there a third option for viewing the non-modified exercises on their own?
The flow of the exercises is further hindered by the odd order of the exercises... Traditional pilates is done in a specific order (to encourage flow and work muscles groups in the most efficient way).
I recently did this video, because I've been doing pilates for a while now and I thought that I might enjoy the video more. With pilates, you are constantly learning how to better engage your powerhouse and make each exercise more focused and effective, so I assumed that maybe I would enjoy it more now that I could really get the most out of each exercise. Not the case...
Unless you are REALLY out of shape or just really want a workout that goes at a snail's pace, this video will probably bore you to tears. Ana Caban and Jillian Hessel both have beginner's pilate dvds that are much better. I would suggest looking into those instead.
This video is great for all levels of pilates practioners- there are good modifications for beginners, great explanation of the poses and the pace is slow enough to really hold the poses properly. The workout is also the only one that is long enough to approximate the workout I would get in my pilates class. I have tred a few other videos, but this one is the best I have found so far.
