Stumbled upon a track by the Fairfield Four, searched for more by them, found this treasure instead . . .
With an amazing array of TALENT who pour ALL of it into their performances, you get an amazing array of styles and musical genres that left ME wishing I could have been there to hear it in person !
Now I have the DVD of the concert, the audio disk of the same, and still have yet to see the movie . . . and am enjoying it all very much !
If you appreciate melody, harmony, great lyrical phrasing, and songs with a simple message behind them, don't miss out . . . get your ears wrapped around this music !
Highly recommended ! |

| If you liked the first and second addition, you'll most likely enjoy this one too. Most artists here are well published, but some are real finds. I like 'pitiful' music and if you do, there is a bit here for you. Enjoy |

"Too country for country?" | 2007-08-28 |

| For many years, when I thought of country music, I thought only of the drawling pop singers on the hot country stations whose slickly produced songs are dripping with calculated sentimentality and lacking in honest emotion. Exposure to artists like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash have convinced me that good country music can be found if one knows where to look, and this CD confirms that belief. These Appalachian ballads and bluegrass numbers by a collection of old-timers and contemporary artists who are trying to keep the faith provide a real dose of Americana and an antidote to superficial country pretenders. |

| This is most, but not all, of the music from the DVD. It is missing Down To The River To Pray and the finale, the name of which escapes me. That it is missing the finale is a big disappointment, but the rest of the performances are wonderful. |

Good music but not as good as "Oh Brother Where are Thou". Worth the money.

| I can't express how much I love this movie, soundtrack and documentary. It's a classic in every sense of the word. The movie is hilarious, the music superb and it makes me reminesse (pardon my spelling)about all those times my parents forced me to watch Hee Haw as a child. It's just the PERFECT movie. |

| I never thought I was a fan of this kind of music till the "Oh Brother" movie, but this "Down from the Mountain" performance has added to my new love. The DVD or VCR of this is also a must see, where it was good to get to visit John Hartford one more time. I really enjoyed the backstage, inside glimpse at the performers on the DVD. Every single song on the CD is a good addition to the over-all pleasant experience, and I suggest you buy this CD if you are a true lover of good music, no matter what type of music you prefer. |

| I purchased this C.D. after "Oh Brother..." spent the whole week of my vacation in the C.D. player of my car. In addition to live versions of some of my favorite songs from "Oh Brother..", it has EVEN MORE terrific bluegrass/folk songs from these great artists. Ignore the funny looks that you get when you blast this in your car - you will enjoy remembering "the good ol' days". |

Congratulations America ! It must be wonderful to be able to go see a concert like " Down from the Mountain " So I shall just have to settle for the vid/dvd.I would like you all to know that American Roots music is very popular in Australia and it is my sad regret that I cannot attend such wonderful events! To those reviewers that found fault with the production and some of the artists , YOU HAVE ALL MISSED THE POINT ENTIRELY ,you sad benign creatures. To those of you that have a genuine love of GOOD MUSIC , set back in your favourite chair , with a large glass of your favourite libation and , ENJOY !Accept it for what it is , a celebration of life by MUSICIANS, not recording engineers with fancy equipment and a big budget. Please give us MORE !! Ok , here is my one gripe ! Jerry Douglas should have had more stage time , but then as far as Jerry is concerned I am opinionated . By the way , lovers of Resonator Guitar should check out a cd entitled " The Great Dobro Sessions " featuring most of Americas great resonator players . Regards Mike. |
