What a good value double CD this is. An excellent group of musicians and a wide variety of songs and instrumentals. It is everything I hoped for in a live session recording and the quality of the recording is studio standard. Alison Krauss shows her versatility with songs of varying tempo and mood and the Union station accompanies her, matching the mood of the songs. Their instrumentals are great, and the dobro player is outstanding.

I bought this album solely for the song, "Down to the River to Pray," which Alison Krauss sings acapella. It is haunting and inspiring at the same time. The other songs on the album are great, too. Alison Krauss's crystal clear voice is one of a kind and this album with the audience response of the "live" performance make it a great bluegrass album.

This two CD live performance is excellent in every way. Perfectly recorded and performed, it includes many of the songs the band is best known for. As usual, Alison's voice is angelic. Jerry Douglas plays licks on the dobro that are impossible. Great vocals and harmonies from Dan and Ron. A solid rhythm section, both with and without drums.

Thw two songs from Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?, Man of Constant Sorrow and Down to the River To Pray are terrific. Two old pop covers also - Baby, Now That I Found You and But You Know I Love You.

Highly recommended.

I was disappointed in this album, but then (1) the only Alison Krauss music I had was the "Raising Sand" album she made with Robert Plant, and I know now that this isn't at all representative of her work; and (2) all I did was read a few of the most helpful reviews. Since good reviews are generally said to be "helpful" by fans who are likely to (or already know they do) like the music, this isn't too smart, I guess. If you aren't very familiar with the artist, you really want to know the possible downside of an album. Thus you need to look at those reviewers who didn't like it much, and see if any of the criticisms "strike a chord" with you.

I certainly agree with the reviewers who have complained of the crowd noise (and the length of it) on the album. Sure, you do expect some of that on a live album, but I felt this was excessive. One track's actual song ends with 1:40 left on the track, and others end with 0:30 or more remaining! This is completely wasted time before getting to the next song, and very irritating.

That said, my main complaint is this: if you want to hear Allison Krauss sing, be warned that you will only hear her on 16 of these 25 tracks! The others feature the band or guest artists, meaning instrumentals or male vocals. This is perhaps to be expected in a concert, but was again disappointing to me.

In summary, if you're familiar with and like the kind of music Alison and Union Station make, and especially if you dig concert CDs, you will probably enjoy this album. However, I personally would be hesitant to purchase the album knowing what I know now. I would be more likely to get a studio album, especially one that I knew featured Alison on almost all the tracks.

I had heard some of Alison's music on the radio but hadn't sought out her specifically. One night I watched her and the band perform on our local PBS station. The next day I ordered this CD and was delighted to find it was the same performance I had seen the night before. A new favorite.
