Good shipping time. Condition was not very good. Case was broken and a few scratches on the CD. Price was decent.

All this music inspires. This is what the 90's was all about; Great emotion, competent lyrics, and formidable presentation. Absolutely love it, you can not go wrong. I came of age in a wonderful decade =)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing about this album that will never get old is the production and the song-craft - the band add little touches to each song that you might never notice on the first run-through, and the over-all SOUND of the recording is masterful. Each song is an exercise in text-book Beatlesque melody, with embellishments here and there: "Graduate" is wistful and jarring, and it could come right off of Dinosaur Jr.'s "You're Living All Over Me" . . . "I Want You" is a funky piece of psychedelia that calms the mood a little bit. "Motorcycle Drive-By" is pure catharsis, as well as "The Background." Overall, an underrated classic, and one that is right up there with the aforementioned Dinosaur Jr. record, Smashing Pumpkin's "Siamese Dream" and Built to Spill's "Perfect From Now On."

5 Star Rating  "Infectious Even When It's Depressing: Classic '90s"2009-04-28

Third Eye Blind possessed the perfect post-grunge/punk/power-pop blend to rule the radio waves in the late 90s and claim a sound all their own. Two massive hits, "Jumper" and "Semi-Charmed Life," deal with surprisingly intense issues: suicide and drug addiction, respectively. The real highlights, however, are the album tracks. The final three songs are bittersweet and disillusioned; "Motorcycle Drive By" sounds downright tragic. "Thanks a Lot" and "Burning Man" are particularly infectious despite their often unhappy lyrics, not unlike the aforementioned hits. "Narcolepsy" is the best track, with its characteristic obscurity and perfect transitions from quiet verses to powerful choruses. There are no disappointments here. Every cut is a standout in its own right; together, the songs create one of the best and most consistent albums of the 1990s. 5 Stars.

Here's pretty much all you need to know about Third Eye Blind (the band and the album):

* Not a whole lot of diversity in either the lyrics or overall sound. You've heard one song, you've heard...well at least two-thirds of them. The good news is that there's no chance that they'll be completely crippled by a grossly uncharacteristic hit like Butterfly or Who Let The Dogs Out. The bad news is that the Nickelback comparisons start to creep in.

* The big hits are pretty much the big hits. There are thre of them here (Semi-Charmed Life, Jumper, How's It Going to Be), more than the one or two that most albums have. Unfortunately, nothing else really jumps out and grabs you.

* What's really holding this band back is the singing. I know that I've harped on singers in the past, but the fact is that a voice that isn't crisp or doesn't have a lot of range really limits what the band can do artistically.

* On the positive side, these are good performances. You can see some creative effort here (that you'd never see from Nickelback), and there's a nice mix of hard and soft, fast and slow, even if it all sounds roughly the same.

* And of course, the relatively daring subject matter, including suicide (always a touchy subject).

Put it all together, and unfortunately, I just cannot *quite* give this a thumbs-up (although 3 stars is hardly a thumbs down...yo, Amazon, the MIDDLE is not negative!). There just isn't enough here and not enough listenability in the non-hit tracks. If anything, I consider this good background music, or at least something you can listen to in the car too and from work without getting even more riled up than you are from the traffic.

I grew up listening to Classical, Alternative/Grunge/Metal Rock, and Hip Hop. Third Eye Blind is one that I can't ever forget. Back in the late 90's, I always listened to this album almost constantly. The songs were so catchy and full of meaning. Despite "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Jumper" being overplayed, they still have very significant lyrics. "God of Wine" and "Thanks a Lot" are, at least to me, much better songs both musically and lyrically. That have that distinctive melodic flow that pretty much defines Third Eye Blind. Out of all 14 songs on this album, my favorite has to be "The Background." It's a sad and touching song that should have definitely been one of the band's singles.

Third Eye Blind (self-titled) is one of those album that quickly grows on you. I still can't believe that this is now 12 years old: it's still sounds as fresh as it was back in '97. Grade: A
