Thats what I thought when I was little. Primative but fun. One thing that was neat about these plug in games, is that theyre good to take on vacation trips. I wouldnt want to lug around my PS3. Anywho, when vacationing with family and nephews, we were stuck in the hotel b/c of nonstop rain. Not albe to go outside or do anything, we had one of these plug in games. *I bought it* Even though some of the games were a pain, it was fun trying to beat each others score. PLus those travel board games are fun too. I actually have some of these games on my cellphone....but it died on me =( You know what would be neat, a plug in game for mario brothers and duck hunt. They have one at the mall that has the old school games, but its durability is horrible and they dont accept refunds. *lasted a day and the cords broke* BUt these mini- plugin games a WAY better. Hey, maybe a one for Q'bert or ghost in goblins 'I like games, I like games.' ^_~ |

"Atari Games fun but too hard for little one" | 2007-01-11 |

| We bought the Atari games for our 5 year old son's birthday and although he enjoys the games, the joystick is very tight. It isn't as easy to control as I would have hoped so he can't control where it goes so ends up crashing most of the time. My husband & I enjoy the games but also find it harder to play than it should be. An easier joystick would make the games fantastic and a real blast from the past! |

| Well, this device certainly shows how computers have advanced. Back in the day, one of these games, Pong, required a sizable game console. Now the whole bunch is right inside the joystick. Too cool! |

"Atari Classics 10 VASTLY INFERIOR to Flashback 2 alternative!" | 2006-01-05 |

As a 33 year old classic Atari fan, I am sorely disappointed by this product. The games are poorly duplicated versions of the original. The details and controls are not authentic. It completely ruins the nostalgia factor for me to play "Adventure" where practically everything is a different color that the original. You can't tell which dragon is chasing you. The old paddle games are not adapted well to joystick control. Gameplay is frustrating and choppy.
Paradoxically, the FLASHBACK 2 from Atari is spectacular. The sound, detail, and control is purely authentic. It is fun to play like the original. I have no idea why one version was done with such better care than the other. Spend the extra 10 bucks and get the Flashback 2.
The 2 person plug and play Atari paddle system is also fantastic. I recommend them as well. |

"Why include NON-joystick games?" | 2005-11-11 |

It's obvious this was the first foray into the all in one system in a controller from atari. First of all, the most classic of them all, PONG, was made for the paddle controllers... you cant play this game with a joystick! the joystick tells the game "move or don't move" but with a paddle, you can tell it "move this quickly or this slowly". Same thing with breakout!!! that was my all time favorite on atari... and you cant play it with this system. Of course Atari later came out with an all in on PADDLE system... with waddayaknow.. the games that shouldn't have been on the joystick system in the first place! 1 star!
Centipide was a TRACKBALL game in the arcade... but it works ok on a joystick. 4 stars
Yars revenge was another of my favorites, and the joystick works just fine with this game as it did with the original. 5 stars
Asteroids was originally just left and right buttons, with thrust and fire... so the joystick works ok. 4 stars
The other games are ok, adventure is cool just for its pre-RPG-ness.
Buy this for the joystick-only games if they are worth it to you. If you're looking for Pong or Breakout, buy the Paddle system which also includes the whole Atari Video Olympics! "Atari 2-Player Paddle Controller with 13 Games"
By the way, what's up with reviewers calling these "80's flashback" systems? I got my atari in 1976!!! |

"Cheap fun!" | 2005-08-05 |

I grew up on 2600 games, and am a bit biased toward gadgets like this. That said, this is a neat little product. The joystick, especially, is an almost perfect reproduction of the original, right down to the ridges along the sides of the stick. It's also made of very durable plastic and the cord has enough reach to meander comfortably around even the largest televisions. Overall, it feels like a quality product that will last for years.
As for the games, they're a bit harder to recommend without certain qualifications. I certainly think they're fun, but older kids might be bored. These are simple time-wasters for an era when high scores mattered more than high polygon counts. Younger children would probably receive these games better. Also, a few of the games are sort of... duds. Pong without two paddles? Volleyball? Ah well. Centipede, Adventure, and Asteroids do a lot to shore up the deficiencies.
All in all, a great product. |
