I found this to be the most useful and versatile tool for gaining comprehension of chords and scale patterns and connecting my understanding of how it all fits together. You can use this tool as the root/tonic from any level to you which you are presently in; it will help you get centered as well as to progress. This is completely compatible with other musical literature that you use now or will use as you advance further. I am thankful for finding this tool, I only wish I had discovered this years sooner! If you are just begining, this is well worth it! It all comes down to the time you put in to learning, it all takes time: This is a very good place to start learning the notes and patterns....

I bought this book hoping to find something useful for my theory students. To my disappointment, I discovered a wonderful spinning cover attached to a 12-page book of worthless drivel. I have all of the background I should possibly need to use this book. I have good command of the English language and a masters degree in music theory and choral conducting. As a result, I expected to be able to make clear sense of the book's contents. Unfortunately, the text of the book, which appears confusing at first, turns out to be indecipherable on closer inspection. Paragraphs lack coherence, misplaced commas make the sentences untraceable, and sentences miss subjects and objects. The entire text is filled to the brim with unsupported claims, and most disturbingly, not all of the theory inside of those pages is actually *correct*.

For a beginning theory student trying to get his or her head around the circle of fifths, this can be a useful book (as long as it remains closed). The spinning wheel can help the beginner to navigate the circle and its relationships successfully, but students beware! The wheel is only useful for the major keys. The minor key relationships, which typically take up half of the time in a theory 101 class, are missing entirely.

I think this is a great tool for finding basic chords in a progression, especially when working on a song and need to know the key or assoiated chords structure. Add this to your collection and build chord progression for your songs much faster.

Hello, This simple tool Really Works. As a matter of fact, it's so simple, but so effective.
Composing your own songs makes suddenly sense, even for beginning Musicians.
Talking about it in "Plug and Play" terms, strait out of the box, without the need for any batteries, haha. Just kidding here. There's nothing really to add. It just works and saves you a lot of time figuring it all out yourself. I mean, you don't really need to re-in-vent the Wheel you know :-)

Notice that almost everyone who rates this book less than five stars is doing so because of Kindle presentation or "slow shipping". Aagg. This book is tremendous. It's compact and informationaly dense, but easily understandable because of the visual aid. If you want to write songs or transpose songs you already have, this book is invaluable.

I have very little musical training, but understood the book almost immediately. 5 STARS!!! Rate the PRODUCT not the shipping!

I recently bought this book having been told about it by a young man who works at a local computer store that also sells musical instruments - a big chain store - Anyway, this young man recently graduated from a music school at a university also here.

Jim Fleser is to be congratulated on this excellent tool. It greatly simplifies a lot of music theory and puts the information directly into your hands for composition and other considerations like transposition and so much more. It distills the important stuff down to something graspable even for amateurs like me.

I gave copies of the book to my two nephews who are studying music now and I'm told their instructors agreed with me when I said, I wish I'd had this book 30 years ago. Better late than never I say. And kudos to the publisher, Hal Leonard for making this available to the likes of me and others! In my opinion this "book" is essential to every musician's library!
