The primal reason for success of Michael Jackson's first solo album, Off the Wall, may be Quincy Jones's precisely calculated light soul tracks; his delicate arrangement for horns and strings adds a sophisticated spice to the late 70s soul/disco sound. Michael's musicianship, particularly his skill in treatment for vocals and percussions with strong rhythmic sense, may be another factor for the success. On his own "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Workin' Day And Night," we hear massively layered vocals and percussions weave complicated rhythm patterns with Latin flavors. Meanwhile, Michael's falsetto must have sounded bizarre to most audience back in the time; the tracks' perfection might have made the bizarreness irrelevant and even turned it to people's favorite. Michael's unique vocal would become another major element for his music's popularity, thanks to Quincy's establishment and Michael's own musical talent.

I haven't heard the album 'cause I haven't got the package yet, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be excellent, as everything from Michael. On the other hand, Amazon really has a nerve: I purchased this item more than month ago and still no package. Off The Wall is the CD that brought Michael into the mainstream audience and the CD that started Michael madness all over the world. He hadn't quite hit his masterpiece yet, that came with the next album, Thriller, but that doesn't mean that this album isn't choked full of fun dance around the room songs, either.

My favorites? Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, of course, because it's the song that brought him into the mainstream. Rock With You is another classic early Michael song. Workin' Day And Night, for some reason, makes me wanna dance in the kitchen with a mop. She's Out Of My Life is probably one of the best ballads I've ever heard, and I think when I hear it that only Michael could pull something like that off and make it sound good.
It's the one that started it all -- you must have it!
