I remember Peter Allen on American Bandstand and I'm a Hugh Jackman fan. I LOVE this CD for the story it tells about Peter's life and the talent of Hugh, who portrayed him in this Broadway play.
As a Broadway musical addict, I like to select my favourite tracks of each musical I listen: one selection means that the musical is rather poor. Two selections means that at least it has paid the price. Three selections means that I've been rewarded for a good choice. Four to six selections means that the album is excellent. Well, for THE BOY FROM OZ I made 12 selections. This CD is simply great. Technically flawless, the album contains great songs (including the famous "Arthur's Theme" The best that you can do) and some other famous tunes. Hugh Jackman surprises with his voice and the lyrics mean a lot. This is Broadway at its very best, so if you are a Broadway show collector, this one should go into your library RIGHT NOW. Don't miss it.

Take Australian Peter Allen's rags to riches life, add his biographical music, sprinkle in his relationship with Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli, and then ice the cake by adding Hugh Jackman, and you get The Boy from OZ.

Anything Hugh Jackman does is amazing. This soundtrack is no different. While Mr. Jackman had done previous stage work, this performance is nothing short of brilliant. Every song is covered in emotion thanks to his performance and the performance of an equally strong cast. Each song is powerful and wonderful to listen to again and again. I strongly recommend this soundtrack not only to theatre lovers, but to anyone who is looking for good music. Hugh Jackman shines and wins you over with this performance. Hoping to see it turned into a movie one day!

Hugh Jackman made an incredible debut as the legendary (if somewhat little known) Aussie singer songwriter. The problem with bringing this show to Broadway is that people basically remembered Allen for starring in the flop musical "Legs Diamond" (some of the songs are resurructed from that score) Although some somes are out of place and sung by the wrong character ("Don't Wish Too Hard was sung in the Australian production during Peter and Liza's wedding while Judy sings it here. For future productions it should come later because it is a disco song. And of course "The Best That You Can Do" was written in 1982) Many of the "Ozalots" (the show's fans want it made into a movie. With Hugh's busy movie schedule and a possible return to Broadway while we'll have to see...
One of the most amazing shows I've ever seen, period!!! Hugh Jackman is an absolute musical theater treasure and is so absorbed in the role you think, at times, that Peter Allen is guiding his movemens and his expressions. Jackman has a perfect voice for this role, and the supporting cast is no less talented. The talented ladies who performed the roles of Judy and Liza had courage that equaled their ability. I saw the show three times and was time and again grateful for its enormous energy, its love and sympathy for its principal characters and, finally, the music of Allen. When Hugh sings "Once Before I Go," the audience jumps to its feet to give him a standing ovation that lasts and lasts and lasts. You don't think it'll ever end. Even Jackman seemed stunned. I hope that someone has the good sense to release this show on DVD so the average theatergoer will have the opportunity to see this once in a lifetime performance!
