The music on this Classic Rock CD represents the latter end of The Beatles' "early period" (of their three musical eras). It's one of the better albums they ever produced.
This music is mostly of the happy sort, upbeat, and easy to listen to. But don't let that fool you into thinking that these compositions are not intricate and innovative as well. These songs broke a LOT of new ground when they hit AM radio at the time of their initial release.
I acquired this album (33 1/3 LP) when it first emerged in the record stores and always maintained a copy in the latest technology available... LP, 8-track (yikes!), cassette, and now CD. It never seemed to loose appeal for me even as newer [in retrospect] Classic Rock tunes evolved throughout the '60s and into the early '70s. My favorite cuts are "Help!" and "The Night Before". Of course, "Yesterday" was probably the biggest hit of them all and I liked that one as well. "Act Naturally" is a tongue-in-cheek, comic relief rendering (sorry, Buck Owens!) by the always-loveable Ringo Starr.
These songs are taken from The Beatles' film "Help!" which I never actually saw until years after hearing the film's soundtrack. It's sort of a funny, goofy flick that I enjoyed when I finally did get to view it but, commercially, I don't think it garnered much Kudos beyond the fans of The Beatles.
If you're a Classic Rock enthusiast, (present at Woodstock or not!), you won't get hurt on this one -- the tunes are as superb today as they were in 1965. |

This is not the American release of the Original Soundtrack, it has added a few songs not from that album and left off the original instrumentals such as "In the Tyrol", "rom me to you fantasy" " The Chase" and more. Don't know why they can't come up with standard releases instead of UK releases here in the USA, when all we got at the time of release from Capitol was the USA version............now they are all UK. |

The Beatles-Help ****
Help! is far from the five star classic it is being labeled but it was a precursor to what was to come from the boys. Just around the corner the four lads would release five of the greatest albums in music history, so for me this plays as a warm up lap around the recording studio.
The title track 'Help' really was a personal cry for help from John Lennon, and not to mention on of the groups best. 'Yesterday' is the very best song McCartney ever recorded, it also went on to become the most covered song in history with well over five hundred version to date. 'Hide Your Love Away' would have fit better on Rubber Soul but is a nice addition to Help! ''The Night Before' is pretty catchy and Paul was really on to something here, and 'Ticket To Ride' might be the strongest thing The Beatles ever recorded. John was a true genius. As for the rest of the songs, honestly they are take it or leave it, and just because they are the Beatles does not make them great songs.
Once again while I don't think this is necessarily a classic I do think it is worth owning and one of the best 'early' Beatles albums. |

| All the CD's I ordered, did not indicate that they are South American originated copies - Brazil and Argentina. The nation of origin of the product should be listed. I still am not certain that they aren't pirate copies, and the vendor Innuendo still has not sent a return call tag. I would recommend using another service. |

With all due respect to the domestic version with the movie soundtrack incidental instrumentals, this Beatles album/CD is probably their greatest album. And its' ironic that it's basically a "soundtrack". Forget the famous mediocrity you saw once amnd said it wasn't as good as "A Hard Day's Night". This collection has *everything*. No B-side/filler/throwaway stuff. Even the track that Lennon himself didn't care for, the beat ballad "It's Only Love" is a highlight! (Gotta say, the "Anthology" version is cooler, though). As the historians know, there was progrssiveness a-foot throughout - yes, the Bob Dylan influence is here, there, and everywhere. They kept their Little Richard leanings and infused Mr. Zimmerman and....what a sound. Their musical counterparts an fans....slackjawed as we say four times a day, today. Naturally we hear a strong Country influence on tunes like that famous B-side, plus "You Like Me Too Much", "I've Just Seen A Face", and "Another Girl". Not that you asked, but my favorite track is "The Night Before". It's characteristically Little Richard Meets The Everly Brothers over a brilliant composition. Their composing, instrumentalizing, and singing was only getting better. (as in, consistently great). CD stereo sound is fine. No new liner notes, though. |

"get this today so that HELP! is on the way !!!" | 2007-09-24 |

The Beatles put out many superlative albums in their time; and Help! is definitely amongst them. We get a good sized portion of fourteen tracks including the songs that come from The Beatles's movie entitled Help!
The track set begins with the title track for both the album and their movie, "Help!" The song starts with a quick single chord as they sing Help--and from there the song takes off like a rocket! The relatively strong sound of the musical arrangement stands in sharp contrast to a cry for help with life's problems. The band harmonizes to perfection; and I love those drums and guitars! Awesome--great key changes, too!
"You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" gives us a ballad that features John Lennon singing of his pain after a breakup with his girlfriend. He knows people don't want to be around him if he's miserable; but he also knows his pain is just too great for him to pretend that he's happy. The guitars and percussion work wonders for the arrangement; and they mark the beat rather well, too. "You're Gonna Lose That Girl" again features the band harmonizing beautifully about the importance of a man treating his girlfriend well to keep their love alive; and "Ticket To Ride" rocks awesomely as the band sings of their pain because a woman they love is leaving them. The melody gets strength from solid guitar playing, percussion and drums. Impressive tempo changes, too!
"I've Just Seen A Face" sports an excellent guitar arrangement and the tempo changes enhance this number. Paul sings "I've Just Seen A Face" flawlessly; and when John comes in the number only gets better! The band jams really well on this number. "Yesterday" is another highlight of this album; Paul sings this with sensitivity, heart and soul. The strings are beautiful and the guitars help, too. "Yesterday," a classic, tender and mournful love ballad covered by countless other artists over the years, remains one of the greatest hits for The Beatles ever.
The CD closes with a strong number called "Dizzy Miss Lizzie." The band jams really hard and you can tell by a cry or two (or three) that they're having fun with this number. John sings this without a superfluous note; he wants Lizzie to be his girlfriend. Listen for some strong electric guitars on "Dizzy Miss Lizzie."
The liner notes include black and white photos of the band members; and we also get the song credits. I like the cover artwork as well.
The Beatles were unlike any other rock band--ever. Help! is just one of many albums that proves their remarkable creativity and genius; and with any luck people will continue to enjoy their music for ages to come.
Thanks forever, guys!!!
