I had high expectations for this book, but it did not deliver. It was interesting, and was an easy read, but not particularly practical.

This book is exceptional and a very easy read for the busy professional. Everyone can use some self help and improvement, even if you cannot relate to all the information in this book, much of it can be used in both your professional and personal life...this book should be on everyones READ list - no doubt.

This is a different type of learderhips book, one about how our own point of view can trap us. Rather than a lecture, we are drawn into a story aoubt someone with a new job who is about to learn a powerful lessons. In a gentle and entertaining way the story helps us see our own limitations.

I use this book in a leadership course I teach and the students love it. It is engaging and easy to apply. The lessons might be simple, but they are also applicable and powerful. Add to your reading list.

Arbinger Institute's Leadership and Self-Deception is a worthy read for anyone in leadership. It's a little slow to read, too repetitive for my taste, but still worthwhile as it points to how we sabotage ourselves by our behavior toward employees/volunteers. As we attempt to defend a false self-image: like perfection or being nice or doing good we become something false altogether! According to Scott Peck, we could even become evil by our protection of this false image, being 'in the box' according to Arbinger. Only by becoming honest with ourselves and others do we become authentic leaders.

I came upon this book at a time of crisis in my life created by my own self deception and it has changed not only my approach to my career but my personal life as well. It is a very easy read and digestable. I recommend it to anyone who is frustrated with progress in their career or better yet before they get frustrated.
