I have a feeling a lot of people are getting this to replace their Audigy 2's since Creative has decided to drop support for it in Windows 7. I have had an Audigy 2 for 7 years now that is coupled with an old (but good) set of Klipsch ProMedia 4.1's. First off, if you are into the looks of a card then you will be disappointed. The card isn't as long as an Audigy and it doesn't have the slick black board and gold hardware like the Audigy. It's just a green PCI card. Does that mean it's a bad card? Not at call. In fact, it sounds very good. But does it sound as good as an Audigy? Yes and no. You will definitely need to spend some time with the mixer. And if you haven't learned yet, all presets in every mixer-software sound awful. You really need to tweak it to your system. I am an audio purest in the sense that I don't think anything needs to be in surround if you have a beautiful stereo signal and the speakers to reproduce it. So I usually have everything mixed into a big stereo signal for my 4.1's. For MP3's I noticed a very noticeable, compressed sound. It definitely did not have the vast openness of the Audigy 2 sound and that's why I deducted a star. It almost makes me feel like my ears need to be popped when listening. For gaming, the sound has been very good so far and on-par with the Audigy. Drivers were simple and elegant. It's not the giant pile of 40 different apps and bloatware that you are used to with Creative. It's all in one with the Turtle Beach drivers. And, yes, they support 64-bit systems.

In conclusion, I am very happy with it. Especially for the price. If I had the money I admit I would go for the high-end Creative Xi-Fi, but I am in no position to do that. Audio quality falls just shy of the Audigy. But for most people it won't be an issue. And again, you need to tweak that mixer.

Works fine with 32 bit operating systems. No driver support for 64 bit operating systems. Company website claims the 64 bit drivers will be available Summer 2009 but do not give any specifics about the release of these drivers. So if you are running a 64 bit OS, this card is completely useless.

Bought this one to replace my Sound Blaster Live I was using on a Win7 HTPC. The sound blaster had driver issues with the new OS so after reading many reviews I settled on this one for price and features. I have been a fan of SB cards for many years (15+) and I was rather disappointed that they were unable to provide acceptable drivers for Vista and the new Win7. After reading many forums and checking around I found out that Turtle Beach has been doing an excellent job of keeping their drivers updated for the newer OS's out there. IMO you really can't go wrong with their cards for Music and TV viewing.

After 2 hours of changing settings and reviewing the FAQ on the turtle beach webpage, I am unable to pass 5.1 sound through fiber optic to my 5.1 stereo. I know the 5.1 works as my dish receiver passes 5.1 without issue. I was using Nero 7 to playback a DVD and was only able to produce 2.0 sound through my system. Funny thing is the turtle beach webpage states that if you want 5.1 decoding you should buy a standalone DVD player and attach it to your stereo. The FAQ states that you set the software driver for the card to 2 channel SPDIF to get the fiber optic signal to your stereo and it will pass the 5.1 signal. This turns out to be untrue. I could set it to output 5.1 through copper wire connection but that would defeat my purpose of having minimal cables behind my home theatre. I intend to keep the card installed as I can still have Dolby Pro Logic sound through the 2.0 fiber optic. In closing I made adjustments to the turtle beach mixer, and windows control panel, all without success.

I previously had my computer connected to my home theater via a RCA to 3.5mm cable. Through that connection I heard a lot of static and buzzing, which is the reason I was looking to switch to a digital connection. So i needed an optical connection on my sound card which I didn't have, until I found this. I connected it to a pci slot and had it running in literally 2 minutes after installing the drivers. I'm not lying when I say that I went through about half of my music library just to enjoy the sound. It's amazing (via the optical connection at least, i haven't tested the other connections).
