Here is what people are saying about the Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Expansion Pack
3 Star Rating  "Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Expansion Pack"2009-08-19

I don't mean any disrespect to Bioware or Atari, but after Baldur's Gate the Forgotten Realms series seems to have lost its appeal to me. I appreciate that this was their first attempt to bring the Forgotten Realms computer game closer to the original pencil and paper version of Dungeons & Dragons by adding the ability to have a Dungeon Master and to make multiplayer gaming more feasible for this series. However, the original campaign story-line, although not bad, did not compare to Baldur's Gate, in my opinion. The relationships and romances between PC and NPC seemed to go nowhere. The expansions to the game were, in my opinion, not expansions, but totally different games. I eventually purchased Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition, just to have the complete NWN game in my collection. However, I quickly lost interest and went back to Diablo II: LoD and recently, Fallout 3.

For all you dungeons & dragons fans out there, this game is great! Takes awhile to go thru it all but you will also want to play it again. It's that good.

I only use this to play online. Once you buy the software it is free, no monthly fees, and there are a lot of fun persistent worlds that have been created using this software. I love it, I'm hooked:)

This is a good expansion to the story of NWN. It definitely has some problems with pathing, but so did the first game. I did enjoy some of the newer features involving more control of henchmen and their equipment.

Love the new magic and the added special effects. I like how it has blended in with all the other Neverwinter games and added its contents to them. Great game !!!!!!

5 Star Rating  "Great NWN expansion pack that could be a stand alone title!"2006-11-03
- Reviewed By Doppelganger from Tampa Bay, FL
I recently picked up the NWN Diamond pack, and was most interested in the Hordes of the Underdark expansion pack. I have been reading a lot of Forgotten Realms novels by Salvatore taking place in the underdark and wanted to take up a CRPG adventure in that same setting the realms. Oddly enough, I played this expansion pack before I played the orginal NWN or SoU! What is shocking, is that made absolutely no difference.

HoTU was a great experience from start to finish. Its a very involved D&D style rpg with real time fighing, which initially took some getting used to after having played mainly turn based rpg's in the past (ala Temple of Elemental Evil and Pool of Radiance 2). Once adapted, the different battle system became a refreshing change of pace compared to traditional turn based styles. There are multitudes of weapon, armor and accessory findings and combinations, which adds depth to the game. The graphics are excellent for this style of game and made good use of lighting and visual effects. Newer games will outshadow HoTU in the graphics dept, but this game isnt just about good looks. The gameplay is smooth, enjoyable and good ol rpg fun. The story is intense and keeps you playing to obtain objectives and work toward the goals. The designers and programmers did a good job of rendering the subterranean realm of the drow known as the underdark, far beneath the surface of Toril. There is also a portion of the game that takes place in Cania, the 8th level of hell. Also well done and well designed, I believe that segment to be of the most challenging ones in the game!

Often times main evil or "boss" fights in CRPG's can leave something to be desired. This was not the case in HoTU. The main battles were epic, and definitely proved entertaining and also challenging. I suppose my only complaint about the game is that you have virtually no control over your party members action and they act independently in combat for the most part. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, its just different from what I am used to from my party based RPG past. Nonetheless, I have to say this was one of the most enjoyable rpg experiences I have had. I am looking forward to NWN2! Not to mention the other expansion packs I have yet to play in the Diamond pack. I would highly recommend this game!
