This book is not great! Basic self help with a different presentation. This book didn't rock my world. Too much information not enough substance, Other books have more potential to create lasting change in your life. I do not reccomend this book if your serious about creating the life you truly envision. It was published in 1994, a little out of date.

The authors clearly know what they are talking about. It is quite an easy read. It largely sticks to the point without being full of constant assurances about what a megastar you will become if you keep reading like many of these books.

NLP is classified as a pseudo science, but that is not because it is not useful, but that it infringes upon the established psychology market. NLP will continue to gain steam as more formal studies are completed, but for now, just consider it psychology for the layman.

This book provides a good, fundamental understanding of what NLP is, where and how it was developed, and how to use it. Most of the self-help books out there today are subsets of this knowledge even if it is called something a little different. This book is as good as any others on the subject of NLP and is presented in a logical, easy to read, easy to follow manner.

If you read this book and don't find something useful, you simply didn't do the exercises. If you don't or won't physically do the exercises, don't buy it because you will not get much out of it. The exercises are not grueling and require only moderate mental activity. For most of us, this book is worthy of multiple read throughs because it is simply something that doesn't come naturally to everyone. However, if you stick with it, it will do you and even those around you justice.

Overall I liked this book. However, it does a bunch of grandstanding. The first chapter is one long sales speech on why you should buy the book you just did. Throughout the book, there are way too many arguments to convince you hey this stuff works, they aren't needed. The language can often times can flowery and trying making this a more difficult read than it needs to be. Also parts of this book can be hit or miss. There were a few chapters that I read and was just like, nope, just didn't do it. Also certain aspects of NLP that were mentioned in the book were missing like, embedded commands and pacing and leading. What this book does do though is that it allows you to take control of your thinking. The phobia chapter alone is worth the read for anyone with a fear, or anxiety in any situation. For someone who wants more confidence in any situation, a more positive attitude, better motivation, get over a painful memory, (who doesn't?)it's there. There are tools and exercises and they work. This will help you take control of your mind.

A real eye opener, most everyone would benefit from this book. It helps one to improve their communication and awareness skills. I will be reading it a few more times for sure.

So many "self-help" books out there are skimmed through and read cover-to-cover only to be later seen as a disappointment when the book "didn't work for [the reader]."

This book requires time. The exercises are meant to be tried over and over until one can do them efficiently and effectively.

I have not finished reading and USING this book yet because I am taking the time to apply the principles and methods because I feel it is very worth my time. I dwell on what I feel is important and work on the exercises for about a week before moving on to the next section. It's worth the time if you're serious about making a difference in your life and those around you - all for the best.
