"Jekyll & Hyde on this kettle" | 2010-01-01 |

It seems absolutely purr-fect. And when it works properly, it is! We've had our first one for about 5 years without ANY major problems. Some comments on the reviews of others:
01> It is a wee bit noisy when it boils, but come on! It is boiling water in a small, confined space.
02> It WILL boil dry if you don't manage to get the lid closed properly, so make sure that you do.
03> True reports that the outside of the kettle stays cool.
PROS:
Love that it is all stainless interior with a hidden heating element!
Easy clean once every couple of months: fill the kettle with filtered water, add a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice (bottled is fine) and a tablespoon of baking soda. Boil, watch closely that it doesn't boil over. Empty, rinse, return to service.
Love that it turns itself off after boiling. Yeah, I'm the chick who boiled the kettle dry in the CEOs kitchen all those years ago.
Love that it is cordless.
Love that it has a small footprint.
Love that it is almost 2 qts in volume.
CONS:
The catch on the lid that connects to the release button is small and plastic of a sort that is not particularly durable. Sooner or later, this catch dries up and breaks off. You can still use the kettle if you rig a way to keep it closed during boiling. We placed a rolled up potholder on top of the catch. HOWEVER, when you pour the hot liquid out and the lid flaps open, the steam will scald your pouring hand. Proceed with caution and use two hands to make sure the lid remains closed during the pour. THE COMPANY SHOULD MAKE REPLACEMENT LIDS AVAILABLE AT MINIMUM COST, SINCE WE PAID A PREMIUM TO OWN THEIR PRODUCT.
ALSO, FOR THE PRICE OF THE KETTLE IT REALLY SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN A FEW YEARS. THAT ONE TINY PLASTIC CATCH IS THE REAL ACHILLES HEEL TO AN OTHERWISE STELLAR PRODUCT.
Seems most of the reviewers on this product had bad experiences. I surmise it is harder to get folks to write about a good experience, especially with a staple item like a tea kettle.
For us, it is a perfect solution with a minor flaw. Hope Cuisinart will fix that part. |

| We had this kettle for quite a while, let say 6 months. We were fairly pleased with it as it did what we expected. Boiled water for tea. Anyhow, the kettle began shutting off before the water came to a boil. Then one day, as my husband plugged the kettle in, sparks flew out of the base of the kettle, where the electric cord comes out. In the garbage this Cuisinart product went. |

| Ok... seriously though, im thinking some of you got duds. BUT i've had mine for over 4 years with not a one problem. Hit the open button whilst pouring? come on are you retarded? Watch where you grab the handle, if you grip it properly you will not hit the open lid button, you can see in the picture that the button is towards the top of the handle and you fingers should be stopped by the design before you hit any button action! good lord, i love my kettle ... that is all! |

| I've been using the kettle for about 2 months. What I like is that it is attractive, has an automatic shut-off switch, heats the water quickly, is cordless and does not take up too much counter space in my small kitchen. What I don't like is that the measuring window is difficult to see because it is hidden behind the handle and it is very, in my opinion, loud while heating the water. The noise bothers me the most. The pros outway the cons therefore, go for it. :-) |

Compared to other kettles, this one has it all. The kettle outside stays cool and the steam from boiling doesn't vent up to melt the undercounter finish. Boils quickly, shuts off fine.
And then it leaked a tiny bit and stopped working. Can't find one I like better but fixing this one for $35 only gives me a little more time since it will probably break down again. At $66+, I'd expect a better product. From Cuisinart, I expect the best. Disappointed on both levels. Don't waste the money. |
