Here is what people are saying about the Cuisinart "Brew Central" 12-Cup Coffeemaker
4 Star Rating  "Dependable machine; good coffee"2007-12-03

My husband gave me this Cuisinart coffe maker a few years ago. He is an engineer and did pretty extensive research before choosing this brand/model. It is good quality at a fair price. We have not had any trouble with it and I use it every day. The coffee it makes is very good. I like the temp feature and the 1-4 cup setting. I like the black matte because it does not show dirt. I find the pre-set auto handy and I use it to set up on some nights when I know having that coffee made already will set the morning off nicely. It is also handy to use at dinner parties when there is enough stuff going on the kitchen. I also like that it turns itself off; I find that safety feature nice.

I decided to buy the Cuisinart DCC-1200BW Brew Central 12-Cup coffee maker because it got awesome reviews and because it is very attractive. For the last year I have been making coffee with a Gevalia free coffee maker (http://www.joingevalia.com/promo/Gev0707/promo003_sc500_ssmg_4b.htm#keycode=115032). It has worked alright except that the part of the carafe's handle that attached to the bottom medal ring kind of broke. It still kind of worked but it felt like the handle might break off at any moment. The other thing that motivated me was that the Gevalia was not so stainless steal and showed finger prints and started showing what looked like water spots (stainless steal my tookas!). I have looked at many coffee makers in store and online at the 0-$150 price range, I found the Cuisinart to be the highest rated over all. I know that there are a few other coffee makers in this range that have pretty good reviews but this is the only one who's worst reviews where that:

- The water reservoir is kind of small
- There is no water fill line on the side of the machine
- Very rare that the machine stopped working, and I mean very rare if you compare this to other machines in the same price range

This is all people can complain about!? Awesome! I have to tell you that the water reservoir is plenty big, yes you cannot just DUMP water into it but it only took me 10 seconds to pour 12 cups! The arguments that the water fill line is not on the side of the machine is irreverent. There is a 3D type measuring device in the machine water resuvar, I can see it just fine (my opinion is who uses that line anyways, don't you use the carafe to pour water into the reservoir, and doesn't it have a measure line).

This machine is solid, very solid. All of the parts feel strong and nothing feels flimsy or cheap. The knobs and the switch are also solid and feel heavy, they aren't cheap plastic. When brewing coffee in the machine it was quiet, very quiet. It took me about 15 min to figure every part of this machine out, very user friendly. I would recommend that you buy the matt black model; it is very attractive and shows no stains at all.

If you have $80 then buy this machine. If you have an old machine you don't absolulty love then ditch it and buy this one. Oh and I forgot to mention, the coffee coming out of this thing is delicious!

It's really cool, I saw 'Two & half Men' the other day and they had this coffee maker but in the not so stainless steal! I read others reviews of other TV/Movie sightings of the machine... keep an eye out!

5 Star Rating  "The Best Coffee Maker My wife and I have ever Owned!"2007-10-06
- Reviewed By User: A3BFIK4OVU634L
My wife and I held out to get the black crinkle finish DCC-1200. We found it more attractive and easier to keep clean then the stainless steel finished models. Some people might find the controls a little difficult, but it is easy to fill, the pot does not drip easily when you pour coffee or water, and it makes coffee better than any coffee brewer I have ever owned. No need for filtered water, it has a filter in it (that you will need to replace every 60 days at a minimum). It comes with a cleanable gold coffee filter, but paper filters are much more convenient. I highly recommend this product

I purchased this coffeemaker as a replacement for my Cusinart Grind & Brew which stopped functioning due to a seized grinder motor. I was somewhat apprehensive about purchasing another Cusinart product but decided on Brew Central model because I liked the features and appearance.

There seems to be a problem in the design of the carafe, or possibly it's a defect in my particular unit. When the carafe is full to the 12 cup mark with hot coffee, the handle detaches from the top ring of the carafe and is supported only by the bottom attachment point. This causes holding the carafe, and pouring of hot coffee a challenge not to mention a scalding potential to say the least.

When I contacted Cusinart customer service, (after being put on hold for 20 minutes) I spoke to a representative who was not only extremely rude but wanted to argue that this wasn't a defect and that somehow I was doing something wrong. Frustrated, I indicated to her that I would never buy another Cusinart product and hung up.

Later on I called again and spoke to another representative who was much more understanding and said that this was not the first time that she had heard of a problem with the handle detaching from the carafe. She also said that she would test out the product and call me back that night. I never did receive a call back.

The next day I wrote a letter to customer service, same thing, never did receive a response.

Finally, out of desperation, I super-glued the handle to the attachment point on the top of the carafe. This worked fine and I figured "problem solved". This morning, with the carafe full of hot coffee, the handle detached from the top ring again.

My only recourse now is to return the unit back to Cusinart under warranty since It's too late to return item back to Amazon.

All in all, I'm disgusted with Cusinart and their products. I really don't have the time to be calling, waiting on hold, and writing letters to an unresponsive company. and will never purchase another Cusinart product again.

I bought this coffeemaker after reading reviews here, and I've now owned it for about three years. It's well-made and makes good coffee. It was a replacement for a lower-model Braun, which I'd had for several years. I had to consider whether to spend double the money for this one, but I'm glad I did -- very well worth it. I especially like that you can control the temperature. Some reviewers complained that the hole where you pour the water is small, but pouring the water in just takes a little practice. It hasn't bothered me at all.

Just got this a month ago. Makes great tasting coffee. Easy to use and the coffee is a nice, hot temperature. I recommend it.
