Begin your radiation sickness anew! This game works again in system 10.5.5, as does Diablo 2 for your demon battling desires. Thanks Apple.

this game dos not run properly on os x 10.5.3 or later. video drivers are messed up so unless u like playing in half a screen and can deal with what could best be described as really low resolution predator heat vision i would pass on this one. besides fallout 3 will be out in a few months

5 Star Rating  "Possibly the best CRPG ever"2005-04-08

This game is simply brilliant. It is better than Fallout 1 in many ways. Firstly, it is less linear (if that is even possible)! Your actions during the game cause the endings to differ. You can do whatever you like in whatever order you please, and there is no longer a time limit (150 days). Yes, the game is a little harder than the first Fallout, but that is a good thing -- The first one was a little on the easy side. I cannot even put how good this game is into words. I 100% guarantee that you will love this game if you have even the slightest desire to play a post-apoc turn-based RPG. It is simply the best one in existence.

5 Star Rating  "Fallout 2"2005-04-01

By the time the Fallout games were released for the Mac, they were both dated in terms of graphics and overall game technology. What ISN'T dated about these games is the interesting storyline, the humor, the characters, and the world of Fallout itself, which is unique.

Fallout 2 does not improve on graphics, and it is essentially the same game as its predecessor. However, Fallout 2 expands on the first: it increases the amount of items a player comes across in the game, streamlines the controls a bit, and expands the world itself several times over making it absolutely huge in comparison. For instance, the amount you can barter with is no longer 3 digits but 4, making transfer of funds a lot quicker. Also, pilfering lockers and scavenging goods from bodies is made quicker with the addition of the "Take All" button. And NPC's are much easier to control with the ability to outfit them with specific wepons, set parameters for how they behave in battle (like, to not use burst), and you can tell them to stay behind in a place til you get back.

Some people find Fallout 2 more difficult than the first but I think that's relative. The beginning is more difficult than any part of either of the Fallout games, but once you start building up money and experience, by the time you get halfway into the game, fights are pretty easy for the most part. And I am not much of a gamer - the Fallout games are two of the only games I own for the Mac other than the Myst games.

There are a lot of new things in the game that make it more interesting than the first as well - I don't want to spoil anything, but I think fans of Fallout 1 will enjoy these additions quite a lot. Personally, going back to the first game left me longing for the additions in the second - not to mention the improvements on menus, etc - and I missed the expanded variety of items and weapons, and the increased difference on personal interactions depending on which gender your character is.

No matter how old they become, the Fallout games are solid and unique RPG's. If you've never played either, I reccomend getting the first due to it being a little less daunting to begin and because it provides the back story to the second. And if you liked the first, you'll love the second.
