I picked up this book wanting to love it but finished it with disappointment. I find it truly unbelievable that the main characters were able to fall in love in such a short time with such superficial conversations and a couple of nights of sex. Life changing? I wasn't feeling it. Obviously something occurred between these two characters that Nicholas Sparks failed to clue the reader in on. Hopefully the screenwriters for the movie were able to fill in the blanks to make it more believable than the book.

I wont be buying anymore of Sparks books. I found Nights in Rodanthe to be very light, fake and unrealistic. br /For those that have read it, how can this doctor who was so anti-social and bad at dealing with people and feelings etc suddenly be able to change with her so suddenly?br /Also, I just didn't feel much emotion from Sparks writing. It was just not believable for me.br /Sorry.... I really wanted to enjoy this! :(

There's a lot to be said for a simple, straightforward love story like this one. You more or less know how the story is going to end by the end of the first chapter, but the pleasure is in the way it unfolds and the exploration of the protagonist's development as it does.
A good story, be it a romance, a thriller, or even an epic, is best defined by how the events of the plot change the main characters. In Nights in Rodanthe, Adrienne tells what happens to her when she innocently agrees to watch a friend's coastal inn for a few days. The only guest turns out to be surgeon Paul Flanner, who is recovering from a failed marriage. Their few nights together lends new meaning to both their lives.

If you knew that you could meet the love of your life but only get to spend 5 days with him/her, and then live 15 years of your life without the person but with the knowledge of what it felt like and what it taught you, would you?
that was the question on my mind after reading this book and still in my mind now, and the heartbreak of reading the story happens when you allow yourself to ponder the scenario of someone who decides that it is worth it for them. In this fictional scenario, for the protagonist, Adrienne, it was worth it and she said it herself she would do it all over again, and then you think about that just for a minute and try not to cry.
The story is simple, the setting is simple, the read is easy. The feelings of both wonder and vulnerability I was left with after I finished it the second time, are still with me, and that question as well... |

That's pretty much how I felt when I finished this one. It's short and predictable. Nothing stunning, and the details are pretty blunt. I was a little let down there wasn't more visual details about the scenery on the coast or the nor'easter blowing through. As a girl from the east coast--I know those are my favorite school ending, government closing weather events. Even the story I wasn't impressed that much with. I can't see why everyone is kicking up a fuss about this author. He's pretty mediocre, let's hope the movie is more interesting then the book--which seems to be the case mostly.

I really enjoyed this book. Though not long, it has a well-developed storyline and flows very smoothly. I wish it had a more happy ending, but it feels real and has a powerful effect on the reader. This, like most Nicholas Sparks books, is definitely worth your time.
