Joanne Baldwin is a Weather Warden. Usually, all it takes is a wave of her hand to tame the most violent weather, but now, she's trying to outrun another kind of storm: accusations of corruption and murder. So, she's resorting to the very human tactic of running for her life. Original.

Here is what people are saying about the Ill Wind
5 Star Rating  "Intelligent and Action Packed fun Read"2010-02-07
- Reviewed By Wolfy from N. Cali
The first book set up the series perfectly. A very intelligent read that attempted to fill in the gaps of the story with a very well edited flashbacks of the protagonist. It was very helpful in helping the story move along and create some understanding of what influenced the characters thus far. Not being very weather minded, I was bit overwhelmed by the weather and science talk; but quickly got on board after a few chapters. Never a dull moment, and I am glad I picked up the first book; because the series just keeps getting better and better.

4 Star Rating  "Good book but neverending series"2010-01-20

I normally don't write reviews but I just had to for this book. I really liked this book, it's a fast-paced, pretty well written, and interesting "urban" fantasy. That is all well and good; however, I have read I believe up to number 7 of this series and 4 of this author's morganville vampires series and let me tell you, she cannot end a story for anything. At first she is good, I have liked most of the books (even though they are definitely not stand alone books) after a while it just gets repetitive. I like a good series just as much as the next person, if not more, but this is just too much. She either needs new ideas or needs to learn how to end a series. It's not that difficult. Anyway I just felt I had to warn people what they were getting into.

5 Star Rating  "Begining of a GREAT series."2009-12-31

Currently I am almost finished with book 5 in the series. Joanne is the lovable character that gets herself into all kinds of trouble. These books are very intelligent. They are the kinds of books that you don't want to put down. Some series books start to get boring or seem like the author is just churning them out. Rachel Caine has managed to make these books get even better the further you get. I am hooked. I will definitely be checking out her other series'. If you enjoy fantasy these books will become some of your favorites!

3 Star Rating  "On the Fence"2009-12-09

I enjoyed this book(but didn't love it) and plan on reading the rest of the series. There was a lot of info in the storyline about weather that was a bit overwhelming which is why I only gave it a three star rating. I'm hoping there will be more interaction of the characters in the next book as a lot of the groundwork is laid in this book. The characters were just that, characters in a book, they just never felt quite real to me. I'm all for the science as long as it doesn't take over the whole story which it was very close to doing in this book.I wasn't exactly disappointed but until I read a few more in this series, I'm not sure if I would recommend it as a great series. It did have rather a twist at the end that made me decide to give the series another shot.

2 Star Rating  "Got suckered in"2009-11-24
- Reviewed By D. Garcia from Los Angeles, CA United States
I read a short story by Rachel Caine that is a prequel to the Morganville Vampire series and liked it a lot so I tried this series. I liked the first book well enough, so I went and bought all the rest. What a waste. Each story seemed like more of the same, over and over, with the heroine making absolutely idiotic choices and never really DOING anything about the things that keep happening to her. Save your time and money and don't get started on this series.

5 Star Rating  "Djinn Wind"2009-11-20
- Reviewed By silver elves from honolulu, hi.
we must admit...
dear lovers of magical fantasy,
... that we were skeptical about this book. It's not that we don't believe in weather magic, just that we thought, how exciting can it be? But wow, pretty exciting indeed. The author caught our attention from the very first page and never let go. This is the story of Joanna Baldwin, a weather warden, which is someone who tries to keep the weather from killing too many people and who use Djinn to help them accomplish this. She finds herself on the run from her colleagues trying to save her own life and to understand how she came to be in that predicament. A strong wind is blowing and it brings magic in the pages of this book.
