I have always been amazed at tarot cards and the ability of people to read them. Purchased both this tarot deck and the book, Pictorial Guide to the Tarot, although separately, when a friend recommended it as a good way to learn. I also purchased a book called Power Tarot, by the way, which was also helpful and available here.

This deck as well as the book that comes with it are considered classics. For those new to tarot cards, this is the deck most people use and it's the one you have most likely seen on television and in movies. It is beautiful and there is a lot of history behind it, which I found as fascinating as the cards themselves.

After reading this book and working with the deck a few weeks, I am by no means a pro, but have a good grasp on the cards and their meanings in specific situations. It's not nearly as complicated as most people think. The pictures of each card tell a story and the story you get for the questions you ask the deck comes through like reading a book.

After reading this book and working with the deck, you will be able to get a good, basic idea of the answers to your questions. I have found this very helpful and a good way to develop my intuition and trust myself more. It's great validation of that, which has helped me in many aspects of my life.

The Universal Waite Tarot Deck was really beautiful, larger size and very colorful. I was disappointed with the book. I found the terminology very hard to follow and the interpretations not detailed enough. I found going to the internet for help with interpreting how the cards worked and understanding the different orders of the cards a lot more helpful. Through working with the internet I found my own intuition to be very accurate. Worth the investment though for the beautiful deck of cards!

As other reviewers have said, the coloring on these cards is excellent. I found the original Rider-Waite deck to be garish and distracting; this is much better. The finish is very slick.

The Pictorial Key to the Tarot, written by Arthur Waite, is included in this set (or can be purchased separately). It was written around 1910, and the first 70 pages are almost impenetrable unless you know something about the Order of the Golden Dawn and Waite's background. Skip that part and just read his description of the cards. You will find that many other authors have simply re-summarized Waite's original descriptions.

This book (and some version of the Rider-Waite deck) belong in every tarot library. But this book is perhaps not the easiest place to start.

I was already a fan of Mary Hanson-Roberts, and her style, but my experiences with this deck take it home. These cards are a beautiful fresh look at the paragon of tradition. They really do have a warm, soft glow. The artwork is colored in a soft slightly grainy, rich without being over powering, colored pencil kind of way. So soothing. Great card stock, mine were somewhat slippery, though, very heavy on the laminate, but they're not clunky.

Overall, I was exceptionally pleased with this version of the RWS.

The tarot deck itself is beautiful and traditional in style, which was what I wanted. I use mine in conjunction with Qabala work. The book looks very dated and old- like it was done in the 1960's. It was yellowed and the print was kind of small. The descriptions of what each card meant were a little short and vague. But the book wasn't my reason for purchasing the deck, so I'd still give it five stars. Also, if you are into reading tarot cards, the book does provide a lot of information on different ways to use them. It came with a colored laminate template to use for reading them in one way, too, which was cool.

I enjoy these cards. The only negative comment I have is that their size seems a bit awkward. As a result of their size, I often fumble the cards and end up dropping them while shuffling. Other than that, they are enjoyable to use.
