It might be operator error, but I still cant get the specific county alerts to work right on this thing. Just when I think its set up right, we get a severe thunderstorm box over my area (verified from the weather channel) and this thing will just sit right thru it, without warning me at all. Not using it like I thought I would, pretty much have given up on it........

Works ok and replaces both my old weather radio and am/fm radio in one package. Changing weather channels is clumsy, you have to go into a programming mode and then it won't turn off for about 20 seconds but then turns itself off after about that long on the new channel. I agree with another review complaining about the loud beep every time you press any button.

Programming local stations doesn't appear to be affective to date. Only has three FM stations that can be programmed. Maybe we haven't spent enough time reading all the instructions but you certainly can't just take it out of the box and have the weather functions operational.

As a weather radio, this radio is a great gadget to have. I have had this for a few months now, and it has proved to be invaluable during severe weather. On more than one occasion the local evening weather report stated that there would not be storms in my area during the night. The radio woke us up with news of impending severe weather coming into my county. It was great to be forewarned. The only negative thing that I have to say about this radio is that the digital clock is hard to read. I would prefer larger numbers and more of a backlight contrast. It does offer a night light option that makes the clock much easier to read, but it is too bright in the room for my taste.

Radio does what it claims to do. I can get access to all the info via my ham radio gear, but this is quicker and a more dedicated system so its more efficient and doesn't take up a lot of room on a desk or shelf. It seems to be well worth the price. And, if you want a bright night light for the evening hours, leave the blue display on all the time. It lights up a large area.

Hey, we so far have 505 reviews on this item. What can I add? I'm very non-tech, never had a weather radio before and am the sort who looks out the window to decide whether it's an umbrella day. I even forget to read all the gadgets scattered around my computer desktop telling me it's hot here (I really didn't need to know it was going to be around 100 degrees today; but a voice from this newest Midland thingy went and told me).

OK, so let's do a "Review for Dummies"? I'll keep it short and simple, tying it into the three attributes Amazon suggests.

EASE OF USE. Yep, very important for us dummies and I found this easier than most radios, watches, clocks or other gizmos I've found. The instruction book is well done, in simple steps of normal English. My parkeet might have a problem; but I didn't, and that's saying something.

SOUND QUALITY. This is where I was surprised. I know some reviews gave this short shrift; but let's compare oranges to oranges, or at least to tangelos. This is a small, tinny radio with a small, tinny speaker. But it sounds much larger and less tinny than most I'd put into this classification. No, it ain't up to the speakers with sub-woofer type attached to this computer; but do you expect it to be? Listening to music isn't harmful to my ears at all (though I do prefer the subwoofer). This surprise is what made me give it five instead of four stars overall -- not that it's that great; but that it's relatively very good.

SLEEK DESIGN. So, look at the picture in front of you. Enlarge and examine it. I actually find this better-looking on my night stand than the picture led me to expect. The blue lcd thingy looks neat, though maybe a bit bright.
