In present time, Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix takes place mostly in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the Ministry of Magic. Two dementors of Azkaban attack Harry Potter and his cousin, Dudley. Harry Potter is taken to headquarters of the society known as the Order of the Phoenix. There he is informed of that Lord Voldemort might be after something he didn't have the last time. Heading back to Hogwarts with his two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Harry feels more alone than ever. Dumbledore stays away from him and there is a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Her name is Professor Umbridge. Professor Umbridge is the undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, who appoints her as High Inquisitor. She refuses to teach her classes any spells. With Hermione and Ron's encouragement, Harry agrees to train a selection of students who become known as the D.A. or Dumbledore's Army. But when Umbridge finds out and Dumbledore runs away, Harry is faced with a dream that frightens him and convinces him to go to the Ministry of Magic. But Harry does not go alone for his five friends, Hermione, Ron, Ginny Weasley, Neville Longbottom, and Luna Lovegood, want to go with him. When they arrive at the Ministry Harry discovers the weapon and realizes that himself and his friends are in a trap from Lord Voldemort. When someone special to Harry dies, Harry will discover that he has to control his thoughts when he comes face to face with Lord Voldemort.
This book tells me that friends are important to you so you won't be left out. The way J.K. Rowling shows her work is remarkable to read beyond comparison. Anyone who loves magic and suspense should read this book.

"Best one of the series so far" | 2009-08-24 |

| The longest book of the Harry Potter series is also the best so far. The tension starts immediately in the opening scene, and doesn't let up throughout the book, which is quite remarkable for an 870-page book (in hardcover). I also liked how Rowling detailed Harry's adolescent temper tantrums. She really tapped into the growing pains that teenagers go through, and added a good layer to the story. Definitely my favorite one of the series so far. |

"The only low point in the series" | 2009-08-14 |

| I love this series, It's so imaginative & inspiring. That's why I was so disappointed with the petulant tone of this installment. If you only read one Harry Potter novel, PLEASE don't let it be this one. They're so good, it would be a shame to see the whole series measured by this book. With that said, it's still good. Harry's attitude just set me on edge- he's been underestimated throughout the series, why is he lashing out NOW & why is he setting such a surly example for readers? *sigh* just get through this one quickly enough that you can follow the plot lines through to Half-Blood Prince. |

| You would think that the 5th book in a series such as this might lose steam, and falter, but you would be wrong. This book just keeps going and keeps you wanting more. You would be hard pressed to find a better set of books, especially better written! No one else could have pulled it off! |

I started reading this book last year right before the movie was coming out, somehow I stopped at page 312 and ended up seeing the movie without finishing it, something that I very rarely, well almost never do, now I know why. Some people tried telling me that it was dull and boring and I ended up getting side tracked, now a year has passed and with a time strain of the 6th movie coming out was put on me and I realized that Harry Potter books are really delightful and not reading book 5 was going to cost me the pleasure of finding out the whole story in the way it was meant originally, the movie was good but nothing can replace the great feeling I get when I actually read these books, so I picked it up last week and spend all my free time pouring over the pages, the book was indeed better than most people say. I absolutely adored it, the atmosphere was thick with tension, these are young adult books but there is so much heart, passion and magic in them that they tug at hearts both young and old and they are not only funny but also intelligent and mysterious enough to keep me coming for more.
I won't rehash what it was about, for those who read reviews and don't read the books things can be spoiled, I'm sure there are a few out there who read the books and not watch the movies, but the book was simply addictive once I got back into it and I was spell bound by the humor, the creatures, spells and increasingly better at incantations students who made the read enjoyable, seems that their education at Hogwarts did indeed enrich their magic because now they were able to defend themselves even better than before. A new menacing force under the disguise of a high inquisitor going by the name of Dolores Umbridge has taken over the school, making the teachers nervous, prohibiting virtually all fun for the students, making their lives hell, on top of that a secret order that is guarding secrets and information that pertains to the battle that has been raging between the good wizards and Voldermort, has enchanted Harry to the point where he's under extra strain to complete his studies and help them with an ancient battle that keeps getting more difficult to fight each year.
The book was bittersweet, something happens that makes Harry feel like he has been stung again by pain that no one else can understand but it also opens a whole set of new questions about his own future in book six, which I will read before I see the movie, these books are way too amazing to pass up and so much tends to get cut out of the film, each chapter is precious, each page amazing, it's really so much fun reading the series that I am getting sad at the thought of there only being two books left till the end. Boo hoo...
