Here is what people are saying about the Lodge Logic 10-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet
5 Star Rating  "Exactly what I wanted!"2009-09-29

This cast-iron skillet is fantastic! It gives a great transfer of heat, everything I cook in it comes out exactly how I want it. I've only had it about a month or so but I use it nearly everyday! The pre-seasoning seems to be holding up just fine. Maintaining this skillet is really easy too. I generally cool for two people max so this is the perfect size for me, you can do two steaks or whatever you need.

5 Star Rating  "The only kind of truly non-stick"2009-09-05
- Reviewed By User: A1AHTXAY9RRXMA
I bought one of these on a whim, since my "non-stick" pans were getting sticky in spite of taking all precautions. I did not find it truly seasoned, but after just a few fried eggs (over easy) and burgers, I couldn't get anything to stick if I tried. I like the weight, too. You have to realize it holds a lot of heat, so it takes longer to heat up and cool down. I turn of the gas before stuff is done as there is so much heat stored in it. Turn it off before you flip your eggs.

It is easy to search online for the benefits/drawbacks of cooking on !!!SEASONED!!! cast iron. Did I mention that the caste iron needs to be seasoned!?!?!? If you don't know what you're doing and are unwilling and/or unable to follow simple instructions, you should still buy this pan, but you should NEVER leave it soaking in water or wash it with detergent!

If you know what you're doing with cast iron or are willing to take 60-90 seconds to follow the simple instructions that Lodge includes with all their cookware, you should buy this piece of cookware immediately.

Why? Because properly seasoned cast iron cookware (EASY, EASY, EASY to maintain) is more "non-stick" than anything but teflon (this is debatable and only, POSSIBLY, slightly in favor of teflon).

Why? Because SEASONED cast iron will last multiple generations. Your grandchildren will be leaving this cookware to their grandchildren.

Why? For comparable price to retail cookware that is absolute garbage or 1/3 to 1/10 the price of aluminum/copper on stainless (Calphalon or All-Clad), you can get a completely reliable piece of cookware that is more versatile that anything else available.

5 Star Rating  "Makes a mean filet mignon"2009-08-07
- Reviewed By User: A1LSK81LYJRBQT
I put this skillet in my oven to preheat at 500 degrees, then used it to nicely sear my filet mignon on all sides before finishing in the oven. Has great thermal mass. I haven't seen a nonstick which could make a steak as good as cast iron. However, for cooking eggs, nonstick rules. My scrambled eggs stick a little in this skillet.

Normally if an item has so many reviews already, I don't participate, but I have to say a little something about this pan.

It is so refreshing to be cooking with such an agreeable pan! Nice, evenly spread heat distribution, you can let it heat up to your heart's content without any worries (unlike enamel, or those awful non-stick skillets which I just don't trust.) Sure it's bit heavy, but not anything too unruly unless you've got wrist troubles. Besides, you never know when you might need a heavy instrument to clobber the occasional burglar or overly zealous lover.

Thanks to the simple care instructions, I now realize why I had such bad luck in the past with cast iron. I find this skillet very easy to clean, in fact. I look forward to cooking many meals in this pan!

5 Star Rating  "Back to Basics"2009-07-17

I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars for pots and pans over the years. Several years ago, I returned to this old basic and use it more than any other skillet I own. I've gotten both the plain regular unseasoned and the pre-seasoned Logic pans and dutch oven. After several uses of the Logic pans, the pre-seasoned finish comes off anyway after a few uses, so the key is to season these iron pans yourself. It's not difficult at all. Cover inside and exterior with a very thin coat of oil and "bake" in the oven. The only care thereafter requires only hot water, a scrubbing brush to remove cooked-on bits, and drying over heat on the stovetop. Now and then I'll re-season the interior with a thin coating of oil. It is perfect now as is and will serve me many years to come.
