"Yes, a battery hog"

This scale is a battery hog, wrote Jason. Yes it is.
It uses two CR2032 button cells. Each cell is rated at 240 mAh from 3V (new) down to 2V. The scale is poorly designed in that it quits working, and starts flashing the battery icon, while the series voltage is still above 5.36V. If it were properly designed it would work all the way from 6V down to 4V.
I bought new batteries today. They cost $4.89 for the pair.

I love my Salter scale and highly recommend. As others have said, it is compact, easy to store and to operate. I've been using for almost three years and have not had to replace the battery.
My one quibble - the readout is dim. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish fractions - 3/8 or 5/8 - in less than bright light.

This little scale does a great job in the kitchen for either weight control portions or for cooking. It is accurate and does exactly what it is supposed to do. I ordered one for myself and one for my daughter. There is however, one problem.......do not use it near a microwave while the microwave is operating because the weight will appear to jump around. You may think the scale is broken but it isn't. I have had one for years and never noticed this problem but my daughter did. It is worth this little inconvenience in my opinion and I gave it 5 stars.

I am a powerlifter/ bodybuilder and nutrition is equally as important as time spent in the gym to recover from training.
I bought this food scale primarily to weigh meats to know exactly how much protein I was getting out of a particular cut of meat. Whereas I had to eyeball and guess before, know I know exactly.
Of course, as a weight trainer, I am gaining weight, but I am sure someone looking to loose weight can use the scale for portion control, as well.

nice, simple and light weight. Easy to clean. Of course, the tare function is essential, and great. This is my first time having one of these, so I'll have to see how long the battery lasts. (which is replaceable )
