"Great features but not very durable" | 2009-11-17 |

I love this watch but after having my 3rd one go belly-up (I did say I loved it, so yes, I have bought it 3x) I am going to have to find a different model digital watch.
Background: I am a scientist and need a digital watch for work.
What I love about this watch:
-It has 24h time
-It gives me both day of the week and date (while my coworkers get confused about what day it is, I never do!)
-Love the timer
-Love the alarms and indiglo
-It looks nicer than your average digital watch. I like both the black and light blue.
What I don't love about this watch:
-It's easy for the little ring that holds the strap in place to crack and break off. This maybe the result of my wearing latex gloves at work and having to take them on/off over the watch numerous times each day. But I still don't think it should do that. A ponytail band does a decent job in lieu of the ring, but it kind of looks stupid.
-My second watch died as soon as I went swimming in it. In 5ft of water. For an IronMan watch, I thought that was odd.
-The faceplate on my third watch has completely detached from the strap. It's ridiculous. I'm going to have to crazy glue the watch to the strap and I shouldn't have to do that. And I've only owned it since August (It's now November.) I haven't treated this watch any different from the others.
Bottom line: I like the IronMan features, but the "sleek design" is not durable enough for me. :( |

"Watch Strap Woe" | 2009-11-15 |

| I have owned some form of Ironman Timex for as long as I've been old enough to wear a watch. Every watch from this line has lasted for a minimum of 3 years before the strap breaks or I misplace it. I have small hands and wrists, so was excited about the slimmer look and thrilled with the standard Timex functions I'm so familiar with: the back-light, 50 lap recall, a daily alarm, and water resistance. I have a moderately active job, so I expected the inevitable scratches on the face of the watch, and the band fit snugly on my wrist without cutting off circulation or getting in the way of my daily activities. What I did not expect was the fact that the face started fogging up after 5 months. Soon after, the strap and the center piece separated, and no amount of super glue could put them back together with any satisfaction. I absolutely recommend Timex, but the new "Sleek" design isn't a good choice out of the product line. |

| Just like my previous watch (besides color change). Good, reliable, easy to use. The band probably won't last more than 2 years, but I still think it's worth it. A warranty is available, but it applies to the watch itself (not the band). |

| I bought this watch to replace one of the same model that I purchased roughly 6 years ago, which had frozen up and stopped responding to the buttons. I assumed it had just reached its maximum life span (whadya want from a $40 watch?). But shortly after the new watch arrived, the screen went completely blank, which makes me wonder if all it needed all along was a new battery - if/when the same happens with this one, I'll try battery replacement before getting a whole new watch! Anyway, the first watch saw me through 6 years of almost daily wear, served as my alarm clock, timed everything from runs to restaurant wait times...and never missed a beat. I got this one two months ago, and so far, it's every bit as good as the first model. The buttons are big enough that even clumsy frostbitten fingers can manage them, the controls are intuitive, and the display is clear and easy-to-read. I've seen a number of complaints about water resistance in the reviews, and I can't speak to that - I used my old Timex Ironman Triathlon to time lap swims (on my wrist/in the water) and never had any problems, but I haven't tried it with this one yet. (And if the directions say not to press the buttons underwater, I probably *won't* try it with this one.) I would also agree that the strap for this one feels a little more brittle than the strap for the first one, BUT I haven't seen any hints of cracking or breaking (again: my original Timex Ironman Triathlon went 6 years without any strap breakage whatsoever). I've also seen some complaints about discoloration and the shiny finish on the face rubbing off. All I can say to that is: it's a SPORTS watch, not a fashion statement. Yes, the light edges of the strap get a little discolored. And yes, the shiny finish on my last one (the purple model) rubbed off over time (the silver on the face of this one is a matte finish, so I don't know if the same thing will happen)...it's FAR more important to me that the thing works properly and lasts a long time. Which, in my experience, it does! :-) |

| I love this watch for several reasons: 1. I am a nurse and wanted a watch that I could wear to work and also be able to wash/disinfect it. I wash it with warm soapy water after every shift. 2. The display is easy to see. 3. Also, as a nurse it's easy to see the seconds. 4. I love that it has an alarm. I use it for so many things like timing my dinner if I'm busy doing something else and may not hear the oven alarm; I set the alarm to remind my son to take his medication at the same time everyday; I set the alarm to give me a warning that it's almost time to pick up the kids from school; etc. 5. I also use the timer a lot to time my workouts. 6. It's comfortable. 7. It displays the date and can also be set for military time which we use at the hospital. 8. It's versatile and great for everyday use. 9. I had the same watch and when the battery died I took it to one place where they said that the battery couldn't be replaced (don't know if that was really true, I never got to take it anywhere else because I lost the watch.) I was going to get something different but after looking at a lot of other watches I ended up getting the same one because it has everything I need! |
