Here is what people are saying about the Wipeout 3
5 Star Rating  "Wipeout is still the best."2009-01-27

I bought the PS1 for Wipeout oh so long ago and will continue to by all the rest as long as they keep making them. The graphics are great, even on older versions. The music is always excellent and the game is just addicting.

At this point I've played every Wipeout game ever made except two. Wipeout Pure for the PSP, and Wipeout HD for the Playstation 3. While Fusion was kinda neat in a couple of ways, and 64 was fun, the real must-owns were definitely Wipeout, Wipeout XL, and Wipeout 3.

The first game was slick and pretty and had a beautiful soundtrack, the second was fast beyond all belief, let you blow up the competition, and had music that was a lot more intense (and so were the weapons). The third game is...different, but still very very good.

The first two games had slick presentation to be sure, but it can't touch this game. The whole Designer Republic thing has just been kicked into overdrive, and everything has that very simplified futuristic super-clean, super-simple look. Kinda like P.N. 03. Different. But for menus, still nice (except for the fact that you can't read the tech specs on the vehicles because the text is illegible ugh!).

The track graphics on the other hand, are like taking the pretty graphics of the first game, accelerating them to near the levels of the second game, and running everything through a graphical filter that makes them look like the style of Need for Speed 4: High Risk or R4: Ridge Racer 4. Again, different. On the whole though, I love the graphics. They feature lots of animations (like birds taking off or aircraft flying by), and are very detailed and smooth, and just pleasant and soothing to look at (less sharp edges and dark moody atmosphere and more happy pastel colors).

The weapons are combination of old and some new, with the new being nothing to write home about. Personally I think the weapons from the second game were the best. The craft though, are probably the best of any game in the series. They are all unique, but thus far I've found none of them to have what I would call a crippling shortcoming. They are all fun to use and handle very differently. Sweet. The tracks feature more of the brilliant track design of the first two games, so you'll want to play them over and over and over. The controls are the style and feel as the previous two games, but a boost function that drains your shields has been added (which actually changes the way you play the game quite a bit). There are loads of tracks, vehicles, events, ect to unlock through getting medals in all events with every kind of vehicle, so the game has lots of replay value. The design of the vehicles is also pretty cool if you ask me.

If you liked the first two Wipeout games, you'll love this one. The same great Wipeout gameplay with new tracks, new vehicles, and more great unique graphics. Trust me, even if you don't really care for it all that much at first, keep playing. It grows on you. And of course it gets a lot more exciting when you unlock the faster race classes...

Wipeout 3 was a great way to get into the franchise because it has the best of what the previous games offered plus a little more. The graphics got some serious update since Wipeout 2 and the gameplay is a lot smoother and faster. Add to that a killer soundtrack and some nice little extras and this game is an obvious choice for any arcade racing fan.

First of all the racing is just plain fun. Frame rate is very smooth and the tracks are varied and challenging. If you're not familiar with Wipeout at all then think of it as a sci-fi racing game. You're racing on an anti-gravity sled thingy that's not only built for speed but armed to take out your opponents the dirty way (by either slowing them down with a land mine or completely trashing their vehicle with a guided missile). Just keep in mind the other racers can do the same. So you have a combination of racing and a little tactical combat as well.

There are some tweaks and improvements from the last games, but the one I'm going to focus on is the instant replay. This is a very cool feature that lets you see the race you just finished from the cameraman's point of view. You see yourself racing past the crowds and screaming around curves (or crashing against the side rails depending on your performance) as if you were watching the race on tv. Neat feature.

The soundtrack is the best of the series (with Wipeout Fusion a close second). Many people prefer Wipeout 2's soundtrack because it has different and eclectic styles of electronica. To me, however, W3 has all the songs built for speed. You get a who's who of artists like Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Underworld, Propellerheads, DJ Sasha and more. For nothing else get this game for the cool soundtrack.

Considering the price of the game today you would be crazy not to buy it, even for just the soundtrack (which you can rip from the game CD). I have played it on my PS2 with no problems and the gameplay still keeps me coming back. Arcade race fans... this game is a winner.

Though some will tell you that XL is the best, XL doesn't have analog support. And besides, the tracks in 3 are just hard enough. And the female voice of your ship's computer is helpful, while not being irritating. The music is great, and like some PSone games, you can drop it into your computer and rip it. Chemical Brothers - Under the Influence is probably my favorite song on this.

I'd reccomend this over Wipeout Fusion, because Fusion didn't really get the controls down 100% and the tracks aren't well balanced. Wipeout 3 is about as fast and hectic as you can get.

When I think of this game, in my head I hear the female computer voice say "Force wall." :)

This was the first Wipeout game I played. I hated it for the first three hours-- and I probably wouldn't have kept playing if I hadn't just purchased a Playstation and had no other games rented to try out. After hour 4, it was OK, and I started to grasp the basic concept. By hour 20, I was totally hooked. By hour 40, I had my girlfriend playing-- and hating it just as much as I did. By hour 60, she was hooked, and I can't even count how many nights of racing and Eliminator challenges we had (before we broke up, anyway).

I have had one copy or another of this game for almost five years. I've probably logged a thousand hours on it easy, as sad as it sounds, and I still can barely hold my own in the top "official" difficulty level, the Rapier class (especially on the harder tracks)... but for whatever reason, that doesn't hack me off like it would on any other game (I'm not a gamer and get frustrated very easily with needlessly difficult games, because I'd rather do other things with my time).

I get this game out every six months or so and get hooked all over again, and actually want to find and thank the developers. I've played pretty much every other game in the series, and this one creams them all (it beats the earlier ones due to the graphics and especially analog support, which adds SO much to the game... and they all pretty much destroy Wipeout Fusion).

This isn't the best racing game of all time-- it's the best game, period. No other game ever released has this combination of feel, substance, replay value, addictiveness, pure eye candy, and-- yes-- great music (and I hate techno, honestly). I don't understand how it's not a "classic" game, let alone how it's possible that it's so overlooked that you can get a copy for $4 used, let alone that you're not BUYING ONE OF THESE COPIES RIGHT NOW instead of reading this. If you've never played this game, and you're ready for a serious challenge that will endure for the entire life of your PS2 (or PS1!), buy it. Now. Don't even think twice.

I'd buy this game just for the music. The game can also be played in normal CD players if you just want to listen to the soundtrack.
