Here is what people are saying about the Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22

Wow this game has to be the greatest game ever on PSone It is soo much fun though the moves are a bit hard to do once you master them it's FRESH as hell! I love this game!!! The booklet tells you how to do all the moves but the Meteo Attacks - (Meteo Brute Combo for Tien: Forward, Down/Forward, Down, Down/Back, Back, Forward, square) like for Tein he splits in two and they both start laying the smack down on you wicket style. So find a good FAQ for the game that shows how to do the Meteo Attacks and have a blast.

I don't not wan't make you fell bad about getting this, but it's not DBZ quality and lets not speak of GT. This was the last game I had before I sold my Psone. The game play is ok, but the graphics suck now I must remind you this game is old it's very old in Japand. Let me get to the point the energy blast suck they look like there shooting snot bughers. The characters look ok they fight pretty fast. look the point is it depends on how you think it is. I say rent it first if you dont like it or you do you decide. This game to me is just unsatisfing, but one thing I comend this for is the fighting is faster than on Dragonball Z budokai 1,2.

I don't even know why I got this game in the first place. I mean, come on, Funamation knew this was a horrible attempt at a fighter video game. There's a good selection of characters, but the game is easy to win (simply stand far away and blast away with special energy attacks). Also, music and sounds are horrible. There was literally no voice translations, only title translations. For DBZ fans out there, go buy a PS2 and get Budokai 3. You'll be spending about $180 more than if you've bought UB22, but you'll surely be happy.

Ultimate Battle 22 (1995.) A Dragon Ball Z fighting game for the Playstation One.

Over the years in Japan, Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball series has been one of the most successful ones of all. So successful that the series, like many other animes out there, was released in America. The show became an instant success, and soon enough, new American games based on it began to be released. Sadly though, most of the old Japanese games never made it to America. In an effort to keep fans satisfied between the releases of the two Budokai fighting games, Ultimate Battle 22, an old fighting game from 1995 for the Playstation One, got an American release. Read on for my review of it.

PROS:
-OBVIOUSLY, IT'S AN AFFORDABLE GAME. Because this is a Playstation One game, and the Playstation One has been pretty much phased out, the game is less expensive than its Playstation Two counterparts.
-THE GAME USES THE CLASSIC "FIGHTING STORY" COMBAT ENGINE. If you've ever played any of the Fighting Story DBZ fighting games for the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo, you're going to feel right at home with this game. The controls are essentially the same.
-THE GAME HAS A TON OF CHARACTERS. There are twenty-two characters in this game, and twenty-seven if you enter the cheat code! This means you probably won't get bored with it right away.
-MANY CHARACTERS PLAYABLE HERE ARE NOT PLAYABLE IN OTHER DRAGON BALL Z FIGHTING GAMES. For example, the game features Majin Vegeta and two different forms of Majin Buu. This makes gameplay all the more appealing.
-TONS OF BACKGROUNDS. Based on who you're fighting, you'll be taken to one of many backgrounds. The setting only adds to the excitement.

CONS:
-WHY DID THEY EVEN BOTHER RELEASING THIS IN AMERICA!? The fact of the matter is, well, this game was severely outdated LONG AGO! Releasing this game in America just seems questionable. They should have released True Battle History/Shin Butoden (originally for the Sega Saturn) here instead.
-GRAPHICS ARE TERRIBLE. The backgrounds are a very poor attempt at three dimensions, and it's obvious that most of the art in the game was NOT done by Toriyama or any of the original Toei animators.
-NO ALTERNATE COSTUMES/FORMS. Why the hell not?
-NO STORY MODE. This deals a massive blow to the replay value.
-TOO MANY CHARACTERS PLAY ALIKE. To put it simply, many characters only LOOK different - they all play pretty much the same.
-YOU CAN'T SELECT YOUR OPPONENT, STAGE, OR MUSIC. These factors are all selected for you. Why!? Being able to set them to my liking was one of the things I liked about the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom DBZ fighting games.

OVERALL:
If you're a DBZ fan who also likes fighting games, you might want to consider shelling out the cash for this game just because it's so affordable. But be warned - it's not likely that this game will please everyone - it's outdated, after all. Normally I recommend buying a game before renting it, but this one's so cheap, you might as well just buy it if you're thinking about playing it.

Well, this game is okay, has weak spots and good parts. I own it. Now, the graphics are garbage. The characters don't look good. DragonballGT Final Bout is a better buy if you can find it. Ultimate battle 22 has a whopping 27 characters
! The game has all the characters from the DBZ sagas. Here are all the characters:
Goku
Gohan
Tien
Master Roshi
Recoome
Captain Ginyu
Freeza
Cell
Vegeta(Majin)
Future Trunks
Kid Trunks
Zarbon
Great Saiyaman
Android# 16
Android# 18
Dabura
Goten
Gotenks

Vegeto(Gogeta)
Super Saiyan 3 Goku
Kid Goku
Super Buu
Fat Majin Buu
Hercule
Supreme Kai
Piccolo
Krillin
These are all the characters available. 27 is a lot!! The game has 5 modes. VS. Computer, 2 Player mode, Tournament, Build Up, Build Up Battle. Those are all 5 modes. But the game lacks of story mode. The energy balls are really, well not so impressive. They don't got any reality. Just little yallow balls. The balls don't even follow you after they are thrown(homing energy balls). The ultimate attack for each character is nothing big. They are not much different then the regular attacks. If you got a PS2, Budokai 2 is a much better bet!! Now, the moves are not so easy to do. For example, Goku's best attack is Ultra Hamaekamaeha, and it is not anything special, but it is so hard to launch!! Man, DragonballGT: Final Bout is easier to launch characters final moves. Final Bout is a much better game, and it is 3-D, while DragonballZ Ultimate Battle 22 is 2-D. Now, if you have that $150.00 to buy DragonballGT: Final Bout, go ahead!! It is extremely expensive, but DragonballZ Ultimate Battle 22 is like rubbish compared to DBGT Final Bout! Now, if you already have DragonballGT Final Bout, then don't buy DragonballZ Ultimate Battle 22. But if you don't got $ to buy Final Bout, then buy this game. Overall, it's okay! If you are a DragonballZ fan without a PlayStation2, and only have a PlayStation1, then this game is a good bet!! However, if you are a DragonballZ fan with a PlayStation2, then DragonballZ Budokai or DragonballZ Budokai2 are much better!!! Well, I hope this is useful!! (Warning: When I said the names of all the Saiyans, I did not type they are Super Saiyans except for Super Saiyan 3 Goku. All of the Saiyans are Super Saiyans and not in their 'black hair mode'! You don't do Super Saiyan in the battles. You are already a Super Saiyan when you begin the fight when you pick any of these characters:
Vegeta
Goku
Gohan
Vegeto(Gogeta)
Trunks
Kid Trunks
Gotenks
Goten
All of these characters are Super Saiyans from the beginning of the fight!! When you buy the C-D and see Vegeta in the back of the box powering up with a yellow flame around him, that is just an attack or barrier to protect him from any energy ball attacks).

I tried this game because I really like DBZ but nearly everything about it is dodgy. The graphics are 2D like some gameboy game. The sound is terrible. You're in the middle of a fight and its playing all this soft touchy harmonal music. The voices are like a 3 year old girl screaming. The commentator for the world tournaments speaks in Japanese and when you select your character half of the names are wrong.
Supreme Kai: Kaioshin
Tien: Tenshin etc.
Even in 2 player mode it is a bit dodgy because the combos take too long to do so your opponent can just bash you to death.
