Though Tony Hawk's Pro Skater isn't new to the handheld market (it's been ported to the Game Boy Color in original and sequel forms), GBA developer Vicarious Visions has performed a stunning, overwhelmingly impressive job with a portable rendition of one of the best console games produced this decade. Though the game had to be scaled back for the system to handle, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on the Game Boy Advance is a true testament to the capabilities of the hardware, mirroring the outstanding gameplay of the original console design. Of all the titles that were produced for the Game Boy Advance's US launch, this game is the top of the heap...and it will most likely remain there for the rest of the year. Good? Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is great.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is a fantastic game, and the Game Boy Advance version is no exception. It's one of those games where you can pop in, play a round for a few minutes before putting it away...which makes it perfect on the handheld. The Game Boy Advance version is also a technical marvel, providing the first true polygonal game on the system

Tony Hawk hit the jackpot when he and Activision Software Company came out with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. The sequel to the game was an even bigger hit, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. The second game was different in some ways. There are more objectives to accomplish in order to get to the next level. The game has new features like new skaters and Park Editor. I played the game and beat within a couple of days. Every time I play the game I figure out something new, like hidden areas, different tricks, and how to score more points. It helped me when I was skateboarding in real life. I learned new tricks through seeing how they perform them. I would recommend this game to anyone who is a skateboarder or is thinking about skateboarding. If your just looking for a cool game, this is it.

Let me get one thing straight. I love the Tony Hawk franchise. Everytime a new Tony Hawk game comes out, it consumes my life for at least a month. My entire world becomes a huge skatepark, as I start looking for a good skating line everywhere I go. However, the reason Tony Hawk has become such a popular game is because it is a skating game that is actually easy to control, that just about anybody can pick up and play without any trouble, where you can do insane inhuman tricks that most people would never think of attempting in real life. Unfortunately, the Game Boy Advance version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is very hard to control. The game needs to be 3-D, not 2.5-D, like this game is. You will find yourself constantly turning the wrong direction because of this. In addition, the awkward placement of the buttons on the Game Boy Advance can be very frustrating. If you are used to playing on the Playstation or N64, it will take quite some time to get used to hitting the R and L buttons for the moves, the A button to ollie, and the B button to grind. I constantly found myself hitting the wrong buttons. When it comes down to it, you will be playing the same Tony Hawk as you played on your Playstation, but with fewer levels. Because of the aforementioned control problems, you will not be able to pull off the insane stunts and scores that you could on your Playstion version. Even if you could, your character is so small that it would not look nearly as cool as it did on your TV at home. Why bother?

I am not a real big fan of extreme sports or extreme sports games, but I have enjoyed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. This is one of the best games graphic-wise right now for the Game Boy Advance. The graphics look very close to the original Tony Hawk game for Playstation. It is also very fun to play. The game has many modes, including career (where you pick any one of 15 skaters and do many tasks and enter competitions, which earn you money so that you can buy new skating areas, boards, skill points, and tricks, Free skate (the mode without a time limit, just go out and practice your moves), and the single session mode (the mode where you see how many points you can rack up in 2 minutes). Every game has its downsides, and this game is no exception. Because of the 3/4 camera angle it is sometimes hard to judge where to jump in order to get onto a pole to grind it, or grab an item you need to get in order to pass a task. Some of the tasks you have to preform can also be quite hard. This can lead to frustration when you have to attempt to pass a task for the 20th time. The game takes awhile to get the hang of, but if you've played a Tony Hawk game for any other game system you should have no problem getting the hang of it. I would not recommend it for any younger kids, as they might have a harder time figuring out the game. One example of this is, since I don't follow skateboarding, some of the tasks I had to complete were confusing to me, such as the task that told me I had to 5-0 the big rail in one of the levels I was skating in. I had to research what a 5-0 was and how to do it, before I was able to complete the task. Any kids 12 or over should have no problem with it though, especially those who follow skateboarding. This game is perfect for anyone who enjoys extreme sports games. Its by far the best skateboarding game on the market right now for the Game Boy Advance.

This game really amazes me! This games graphics are very good, the levels look like 64 version quality, but the skaters themselves are 3D but they don't even have faces and aren't that detailed. There are 3 modes of play, Career, it's just like Pro skater 1's career mode except new levels, Free skate, just pick a level and skate to your hearts content, Sinlge Session, this is career mode without the level objectives. The game was the first I ever bought for GBA, it's a very well done and fun game. This obviously isn't the best Pro Skater game and there isn't any multiplayer, this is why it got a 4. One more thing is that you don't get as much feeling of getting big air as you do in the other versions because of the camera angle and distance from your skater, but you can't help but smile when you land your first 100,000 point trick, I did mine on the school level. Graphics:10 Fun Factor:8.5 Gameplay:8.5 control:5 Takes some getting used to but once you learn them it's as easy and as simple as walking (well not really..) Variety:7 OverAll:8.2 Great game, period. Be sure to read my other reviews, just click on see more about me by my name.
