I bought these speakers in an effort to expand the coverage of my existing outdoor sound setup. I had two Insignia speakers which were very inexpensive so I hoped to improve the total sound. Overall I would say they were about the same as the much less expensive Insignia speakers. Not much bass, highs were not as clear as I expected, easy to overdrive. I will be moving them to a small outdoor room where I hope they are not as stressed. They look good, are easy to install and seem high quality. Just wish they sounded better.

Using the Polk Audio Atrium 55 outside by pool. Great sound, projection and bass. I have really cranked them up at times and they have had no problem handling the volume.

I've seen these speakers for $200 to $250 in 'brick in mortar' stores, so they were a steal at Amazon's price.
They were easy to install and sound great. I've seen others complaining about a lack of bass, but I personally do not have that problem. Sound carries differently outside, and without walls and other hard objects to 'bounce' off of speakers are going to sound differently outdoors. Placement of the speakers will also determine how they sound. For example, placing them up high near a ceiling will help give more bass.
Some outdoors speakers sound 'hollow', and are not capable of delivering a decent range for outdoor music listening. A song like 'Adagio In D Minor' still sounds good, and any speaker that can solidly reproduce the sounds on 'Adagio In D Minor' is okay in my book. These speakers sound great, and I think they are the best speakers you can buy at this price point.
Sure, you could jump into the $200+ range (on Amazon) for better sounding outdoor speakers, but unless you are a serious audiophile I wouldn't recommend spending the extra cash.

Went with the bigger speaker size as read many people complain about the loss of bass in outdoor setting.
Very happy with the choice. It fits under the soffett on the deck. Easy to install. Sound great and have full range and yes, I can hear the bass!

We installed the pair of Atrium 45 all-weather speakers on the outside wall over the deck at our beach home on the Oregon coast. The speakers provide great sound quality - surprisingly so for the relatively low cost. The amount of volume they provide easily serves the area (800 sf) and the quality of sound is excellent for an outdoor application. Time will tell how well they hold up in the salt-air environment but they appear to be at least as well constructed as the much more expensive units they replaced (which lasted more than 5 years) At this price point, I would be satisfied even if they had to be replaced every 3 years. I would definately recommend these speakers.

I've installed Polk speakers in every car I've owned and have always been pleased with their outstanding sound quality, but was a little doubtful that I'd get the same great sound in weatherproof speakers. After listening to these beauties on my deck over the last 2 months, I'm please to report that they sound outstanding. Fantastic bass, great detail and great stereo field no matter how loud, soft or distant. Also, these speakers sat unmounted on my deck railing thru showers and one horrific rain/thunderstorm and are no worse for the wear. If you're considering outdoor speakers, make sure you go with all weather or weather proof as opposed to weather resistant, and I highly recommend these Polk speakers in particular. (I bought them on Amazon for $150 for the pair, so check around the site for prices.)
