Here is what people are saying about the Franklin EBM-900 eBookman
3 Star Rating  "Don't lose your CD"2010-03-07
- Reviewed By Heather Mae Sivret from Louisiana, USA
If you lose your CD and you have windows 7, you can't install the drivers for the ebookman through device manager. My CD blew up in my cd rom drive and now I can't use my ebookman. It says it can't find drivers for it. The fact it can't play pdf files really sucks. .txt is fine is you can get a program to change over pdf, but if not you are really limited on books.

4 Star Rating  "EBM 911 Experience"2010-01-25
- Reviewed By tonyend2001 from Long Beah, CA
A lot of people have already reviewed this, so I'll just address some of the negative comments I've seen.

1. Battery life: This uses 2 AAA batteries. I highly suggest having and using at least 2 sets of rechargeable batteries because the batteries last only about 3 days with regular reading and using the backlight. You'll save yourself a lot of money by just using rechargeables.

2. Losing everything when you change out the battery/Reloading the operating system: On Amazon I bought a 64 MB MMC card for ~$14 (that's including the shipping[...]). You can backup the operating system and your books onto the MMC card. If the batteries run out or you change them the EBM 911 will automatically restore from the MMC card so that you won't have to restore from your PC. Even if you do restore from your PC, it takes only a few minutes, but the MMC option is more convenient.

3. Lack of books: I noticed that some people seem to think there're a lack of books for this reader. The reader includes MobiPocket reader and there're thousands of books available at [...], [...] and [...] to name just a few. You'll have no problem finding books for this reader.

Overall, I like this reader. It fits in my hand and isn't heavy. Page turning is done either by a toggle wheel on the side or by tapping the left or right side of the screen. It fits in my jean and coat pockets so it's easy to carry.

I do plan to eventually upgrade to either the Barnes and Noble Nook or the forthcoming Alex Reader when it comes out at Borders, but for now this works fine for my needs. The reason I'll upgrade is because I do like the e-Ink display on the newer readers. However, one advantage of the EBM is that it has a back light display which makes reading in bed at night much more convenient than having to use a separate booklight. There's no way to back light the e-Ink readers so you'll need a separate book light.

2 Star Rating  "Software is no longer supported by Mobipocket"2009-10-08
- Reviewed By Norma Mitchell from Carrollton, TX
I was given the Ebookman 900 for Christmas, 2008. After 6 months, it quit on me. I emailed Franklin and was informed that Extacto was their distibutor. When I contacted Extacto, I was offered an upgrade to EBM 911 for an additional 85.00 which I paid. I received the new reader and everything was fine until September,2009 when I tried to download 2 titles. After contacting Mobipocket and another website where I purchase ebooks, I was told that Ebookman 911 was no longer supported by this software. Not only am I out the price of a reader that didn't last 6 months for either one, but I am out the price of the ebooks. I will not be purchasing a reader from this company again.

4 Star Rating  "would buy another one "2009-01-13
- Reviewed By Kenneth E. Williams from Jonesborugh, Tennessee USA
The ebook is great , has alot of features that the Kindel dosent , Wish it was little bigger i guess more of actual book size feels more like a toy thats about the only draw back . I would buy another one in the future.

1 Star Rating  "Dissappointed"2008-11-14
- Reviewed By athomechef from Brooklyn, NY
Very dissappointed with product. Very difficult to setup an costly to setup. More cost efficient to purchase more expensive book readers after having to purchase all the additional items (i.e. MMC card (which is hard to find) and adapter. Also found books for this reader cost more money than the other readers.

1 Star Rating  "Do not get it if using Windows Vista"2008-06-18
- Reviewed By Frances Ann Rolf from Huntsville, AL
This product is not compatable with Windows Vista. This was not made clear before purchase. I would feel that if it was not compatable with such a well used product it should have compatability on the ordering information.
