I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis in October 2009 after a hemithyroidectomy (removal of half of my thyroid gland). So naturally I wanted to know everything I could about hypothyroidism. The condition is hereditary in my family and being only 22 at the time of my diagnosis and realizing I would live with it forever, I needed more info. Being an RN gave me basic knowledge of the condition but I wanted a book that could tell me how to live with it and FEEL better! If you have this condition you know about the fatigue, the depression, dry skin and losing hair, being freezing cold all the time, and a lot of other problems! So I got this book and began reading.... I still have not read EVERY page but the pages I have read are all great. It really provided me with a new knowledge basis for my hypothyroidism and gave me advice on how to live better. It gives tips on thyroid meds as well as other types of medicine that may help, such as acupuncture. It even talks about pregnancy with hypothyroidism, which I will deal with in the future, hopefully! I LOVE this book....it is awesome! If you have hypothyroidism it is a must read for sure! Even if you don't read it from cover to cover, look up whatever you want to know in the index...it is sure to be there! BUY THIS!!!!

This book contains a huge amount of information about a variety of aspects regarding hypothyroidism. It may actually help me to improve my health, as I'm learning the most effective way to manage my medication, diet, etc. For example, I was unaware that a multivitamin should not be taken at the same time as my thyroid medication, because the calcium can inhibit the absorption of my thyroid med. This was money well spent!

Yes this book is timely but it does not address the solutions we as physicians can not practice in our current health care model. As physicians in practice the system as well as the pateare forced to treat symptoms and that is what created the epidemic in the first place. It is the short sited use of medicating our patients, overuse of antibiotics,ignoring clear signals of serious progressive disease to use palliative treatment for cost saving and expediency that got us here in the first place. It's a numbers game treat the patient quick, don't do extensive lab tests to truly understand the syndrome.


I dropped out of that model years ago and now can stop the insanity. Examine, understand, treat and retest monthly if necessary - until I'm able to slow or reverse the progression of these syndromes. In order to do this I now work for my patient not their insurance companies, yes I see a lot less numbers but I can go to bed at night knowing the patients are responding within months even weeks. The sad part of this is those millions and millions of patients without proper treatment lose cognitive function so they can't complain or picket.

The information is life saving because it covers blood tests and the ranges for each lab test. It covers the medical field and what or what not to expect. It was for me, the BIBLE of Thyroid and all avenues relating thereof.

I was very pleased with MS.Shomons' book.It gave me information on my disease that I was unaware of.Better yet,it gave me possible solutons to problems I am having managing this unpleasant health issue that is hypothyroidisim.

Well written,to the point.If you have thyroid disease,this is a must read for you.
