I started out reading this book thinking, "wow this guy has some really good techniques for talking to girls". I'm half way through the book, and now I'm thinking, "I can't believe i'm reading a biography, i never thought a biography could be so interesting". It is an easy read, I very rarely read books for fun, but this one keeps me reading. This is not a how-to book, but it is a good starting place for somebody who wants to know "how-to".

THE GAME works for a lot of reasons - it's readable, it's unique and it's personal. THE GAME presents a twisted world of pettiness, jealousy, ambition, pride, ego, sexuality, sex, and self-destruction.

In short, it's a story about shallow people trying to find meaning through picking up women - but in the hands of Neil Strauss, this becomes a scintillating subject. If I were younger and single, I might totally dig Style's techniques, but being older, the book provides you with reflection on what the world is, and why the Game is played. Thankfully, Neil doesn't lose his sense of perspective - although many a time, I wondered why he was hanging out with such a bunch of losers. This is something I'd like to ask him one day.

THE GAME is really more of a social study than a guide. There is a moral in here somewhere, but this is really a fascinating study of how men and women click (or don't), and how our neuroses manifest themselves in the modern world. Some chapters descend into porn fantasies and others into eloquent treatises on the nature of men and others on female behavior.

I didn't feel admiration for the characters of the GAME. If you make it through the end of the book, chances are you will:

a) identify with the Game

b) identify with the characters

or

c) feel that the people you just read about were a bunch of dysfunctional losers ( a conclusion that Neil tries to avoid, but cannot deny )- but what does that make Mr Strauss who is still riding off the success of this book and has gone on to write another one?

It's a lot like Wall Street - remember how traders idolized Michael Douglas as Gordon Gecko? The Game is a little like that but in LA.

Happy reading, and try not to take this too seriously...

I don't know why I began to read this book since I have a wife and two kids and in no way I want to become a pickup artist, but I must say I really liked it. The story and writing style of Strauss caught me and I couldn't stop reading it. Learning the rules can help you become a better man, your true self, because it will show you that the confidence you are looking for is already inside of you. But in the end, don't get caught playing a game!

I read 'Emergency' first and came to this book as a fan of the author. While some people quibble over the nature of the content, to me this is a solid non-fiction work and the author is talented.
The author spins a good yarn and while the stories can seem somewhat crazy, the characters all come into focus as real humans living in a different strata of society than most. I have no interest in practicing the pickup arts but the author makes a solid case for the contributions they can make to all form of social interactions.
I'll continue to follow-up on this author's bibliography because I find the writing to be concise and journalistic. Also, for those interested, the author is a good reader/narrator as well, if you decide to go with the audiobook.

I read this book for its intent as a story. I found it to be a real page turner. Sure, one could pick up self helpful insights on approaching women, but it was his narrative about the transformation of himself and those around him is what grabbed me. It was a two year growth as an individual that left him anything but a misogynist as some may think by the title. It can also stand as an inspirational boost for anyone wanting more out of themselves.
